So, I haven't seen anyone on the flist talk about this: Obama to seek arms reduction w/Russia. Why isn't this big news? I actually teared up when I read about it, not because I think reducing to 1,000 weapons per country is going to make the globe especially safer, but because - disarmament, man. Nuclear weapons reduction. Continuing committment to Start. Why aren't we all talking about this and remembering how important it is? Do we only care about Iran having nuclear weapons now or something?

Well...

People don't like to pay attention and the media doesn't like to care. If the media and the people just tried a little friendly lets-talk-about-nuclear-weapon-reduction chat...fists would fly.

And what are you doing to promote your feelings on disarmament and world peace? Honest question.

I think the reason people don't care that much is, for all the spats they've had, the chance of a US/Russia war that involves nuclear weapons is extraordinarily low. The chances of Iran getting in a war with one of its neighbours, while low, is much higher.

And, I don't know about your flist, but mine hasn't actually been going on about Iran's nukes either.

It's nice that countries are disarming but I'd be more excited if they got rid of weapons that they actually do use.
