And Black Robin/Chatham Island Tits is slowly dying out as a fandom as the species recovers. But there was a lot of hurt/comfort for a while when there was so much cross-species fostering going one.

Who do you think the last moa in the world is going to end up with?

Or, no, I know. There are two moas and they each think they're the last one in the world, and they're ever so lonely. One is in the North Island, and the other is from the South Island, in Fiordland. The one long fic is about how the rare birds of New Zealand matchmaked and schemed to get them together. Once they're actually in the same place, it's all misunderstandings and angst over the fact that they actually love each other, but each believes the other doesn't love him/her and is only with him/her out of a sense of duty, since they're each the last of their kind.

No doubt it's only sorted out with the aid of the rare birds that got them together in the first place. There are several side stories about the other rare birds plus five postscripts about their babies.
