Instaquiz: should I try to get to romeo and juliet or as you like it at the Globe while I'm here? I know R&J pretty well (obviously) & will have lots of opportunities to see it again. I know As You Like It hardly at all. They're neither of them exactly rare and unusual plays and they're not dead boring like Cymbeline. (I saw a dreadful Summer Shakespeare of Cymbeline that I've never gotten over.)

(or any other theatre recs? - I'm seeing The Cherry Orchard tonight at the Old Vic, could be great or it could result in my jetlagged ass embarassingly falling asleep. *crosses fingers*)

There's an open air theatre, I think near the tower but on the other side of the Thames. It's like an amphitheatre; you sit on stone ledges going downwards. Um. I'm not being very helpful here. But! I saw The Caucasian Chalk Circle there and it was awesome. It might not work so well for plays-not-by-Brecht, but it was free and quite the experience.

ETA: This is it.

go to arcadia by Tom Stoppard instead (or as well)
We went and it is FANTASTIC, think Importance of being Earnest funny - and the whole thing is about entropy - what could be more awesome?

As You Like It. Very funny, and some fantastic characters. Also, Rosalind is my second favourite Shakespearean heroine.

I love Cymbeline, but that's just because I had such a good time studying it.

Also, As You Like It has Jamie Parker in it as Oliver. Scripps from The History Boys. Kind of adore him.

I'm sure R&J would be great too, but as you said, you'll have plenty of opportunities to see it.

Oh, dear, Chekov - I practically fell asleep reading an excerpt. I hope it is/was better on stage.

BTW, if you haven't seen it on FB already, your sister is in quarantine. Sounds like you got out of the country just in time!
