TWICE in the last two days I have seen people who I do not know cite YW as having a canonical slash couple (here and here). Unless I'm missing some crazy WAW spoiler, T/C is becoming such a meme. It's everywhere.

So I wish people would write a bit more of it. *sulk*

Trust me, you're not missing something. People just assume that Tom and Carl are together, and to be quite honest, I don't really mind.

[identity profile] sixth-light.livejournal.com 2005-10-01 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's such an easy assumption, though - I mean, I'm not a slasher (and when I say this, I mean my first assumptions are ALWAYS het) and I was genuinely surprised when I heard that DD had not intended them to be read as a couple.

[identity profile] bad-mushroom.livejournal.com 2005-10-02 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...I guess they were based on real people, so people are a bit wary of slashing them now, but at the same time everyone knows that everyone thinks of them as a couple >_>

Well, as a slasher I always assumed it- but it's always been confirmed for me by the fact that non- slashers, and people who haven't even heard of slash,t end to think the same thing (CF [livejournal.com profile] sixth_light). *shakes head* I mean second to K/N it's my YW OTP- I ust wish it would be writtenmore. ;)

Yup. Love them. Love them lots.

D/R is my ultimate YW ship, then K/N, and then T/C because hell, T/C is just so comfortable and...fluffy. No drama there. Then K/N--they're pretty settled down into "right now we're friends but it could become something else" and then there's my lovely tumultous D/R...^_^

T/C and N/K are basically the ships of MARRIED MARRIED MARRIED, don't you think? They're so... soothing to think about.

*happy noises*

[identity profile] bad-mushroom.livejournal.com 2005-10-02 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly...which is why I love D/R, because they're not like MARRIED MARRIED MARRIED.

I guess it makes it more interesting, true. With Tom and Carl, really the best thing to do would be to do past-fic, back when they were getting together (assuming they're together now, which, well. We've covered that topic. ;) ) and going through Ordeal or whatever- I mean, we have no idea how they met.

If I had a bunny, I would totally write it myself, even though I never write & have never written slash. *sigh* Oh well, back to the sittin', waitin', wishin'...

[identity profile] bad-mushroom.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh...oh...oh...that would be a completely squeeable fic...oh, now you've got me hoping.

(Maybe I'll try to write it...I've never written slash before either...)

D/R, though (oops, forgot to tag this on to the end) always leaves me with this "... too many het pairings. must abort" kind of feeling. I would just kill for some Dairine f-slash, wouldn't you?

Er, perhaps you wouldn't. But anyway. :P

[identity profile] bad-mushroom.livejournal.com 2005-10-02 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. I love Ro too much to f-slash Dari. But if he didn't exist...hell yes would I f-slash her!

Yeah, I mean... that would be hot. *shallow*

Although it would kind of make her very very Willow-y I guess. But I mean, it's not like the world doesn't need more red-headed geeky lesbian magic-using hackers, right?

...right?

[identity profile] bad-mushroom.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Right!

[identity profile] gooseberry107.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
OMFG...I clicked on that first link and scrolled down...and what do I see? An SVU icon! And a Young Wizards mention! When two of my greatest loves turn up on the same page...well...that's when we know all is right with the world. :-D

As for slashing...agree on Dari. :-) And T/C...funny that people just assume that. I guess I just didn't really think about it much, or if I did I didn't assume it, but it's not like it would bother me...it just never seemed important I guess.

And I never shipped N/K before this book. But now...it's like WHY AREN'T THEY TOGETHER YET??

I know. LiveJournal just makes EVERYTHING RIGHT, ALL THE TIME. It's like, I don't know. Cool, or something. ;) and I just re-read your paragraph on the pletora of words in the English Language and it strikes me... isn't the vernacular so empty, so drained of the appropriate words? *sigh* The Speech would have a good one, I'm sure.

You would f-slash Dari? Or you're a Dari/Ro person? I can get a handle on the second one, but the first would require a radical readjustment of The World: But Not As We Know It, Oh God, Get Us Away From Here, more commonly known as my brain. :D

OMG don't spoil me please but OMFG I WANT WAW NOW.

And I want spoilers. *restrains self from cruising spoiler forums*

[identity profile] gooseberry107.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I won't spoil you, but yes, I'm Dari/Ro. Turnaround from WH, but after this book...and I was just feeling shippy when I read it. And any f-slash I did of Dari would be merely a joke--I don't think that would work seriously. Has your world righted itself? ;D

And I feel bad for you. For not having WAW yet. It must be hell. Book hell.

[identity profile] labellementeuse.livejournal.com 2005-10-05 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
LOL Well okay, then. I gotta say, I would have been surprised. Although personally I'd be partial to some Dari f-slash, I can see myself getting on with Dari/Ro as well, so... *shrug*

It is. Book Hell: The Worst Sort. (Imagine if Hell* consisted of demons waving new Duane and Pratchett and McKinley and and all the rest in front of you... like Tantalus only, um, books, not grapes. )

*if I believed in it. tell you what, this whole idea is almost terrifying enough to make me convert...
