girls go the long way to hell: frankenstein mix #1

I came across The Frankenstein Meme while surfing, and, heck, you know how I feel about music memes. So! Mixlist and upload links under the cut!

girls go the long way to hell

1. A song that wakes you up in the morning.

Goldenhorse, “Don’t Wake Me Up.”
This was my alarm-clock song, by choice, for about six months.

A love that lies down like a fool
Gets walked on by the crowds
Screaming in the dark.

2. A song you loved in high school.

Nine Days, “Absolutely (Story of a Girl)”
I think everyone who went to school between, say, ‘97 and 2003 loves this song.

And your clothes never wear as well the next day
And your hair never falls in quite the same way
You never seem to run out of things to say…”

3. A song that mentions a dead celebrity.

Shona Laing, “(Glad I’m) Not A Kennedy.”
What can I say? It’s a classic.

Wearing the fame like a loaded gun
Tied up with a rosary
Ooh, I’m glad I’m not a Kennedy.

Imagine being a Kennedy,
Rule without a remedy
To watch your family die,
world loves the sacrifice.

4. A song you'd be embarrassed to listen to with your grandmother.

Alice Deejay, “Who The Fuck Is Alice.”
I think she’d cry if I swore in front of her. :( Poor thing raised seven boys, she’s a little fragile.

I don’t know why she’s leaving, or where she’s gonna go
I guess she’s got her reasons but I just don’t want to know
Now I’ve got to get used to not living next door to Alice.

5. A song that MTV will never play in a million, billion years.

Grease, “There Are Worse Things I Could Do” (Rizzo’s song.)
Not that I would know what MTV plays- it just seems like a good guess.

But to cry in front of you,
That’s the worst thing I could do.

6. A song with a title that ends in y.

Bic Runga, “Sway.”
I know there are people out there who don’t know and love this song, I just don’t believe it.

I’m practicing your name
So I can say it to your face

7. A song that makes you crave something.

Once More With Feeling, “See You In Hell.”
Jazz and dancing!

All those secrets you’ve been concealing,
Say you’re happy now,
Once more with feeling.

8. A cover song that you think is better than the original.

Sixpence None the Richer, “There She Goes.”
It’s not that I think it’s so much better, I’m just more familiar with it.

racing through my brain
and I just can’t explain

9. The original of #8.

NoFX, “There She Goes.”

10. A song that reminds you of a fandom OTP.

Tom & Jerry, “Hey, Schoolgirl.”
One of many: this is my Nita/Kit song, forever and ever amen.

She said “Hey, babe, I got a lot to do
Takes me hours ‘til my homework’s through
Someday we’ll go steady so don’t you fret,
Ooh, not yet!”

11. You have been caught mouthing the lyrics to this song.

Michelle Branch, “Goodbye to You.”
This song’s actually addictive, the kind you don’t get sick of on repeat.

And it hurts to want everything
And nothing at the same time
I want what’s yours and I want what’s mine
I want you but I’m not giving in this time

12. A song that will always make you think of a movie.

The Cardigans, “War.”
From the 10 Things I Hate About You soundtrack.

Please, I’m almost done, don’t leave
I’ve loaded my gun with blood.

13. A song that should totally have fic written about it.

The Killers, “Midnight Show.”
I mean, there should always be more porn, right? I just have this vision of the Redbird…

I drive faster, boy
I drive faster, boy
Oh crashing time can't hide a guilty girl
With jealous hearts that start with blossom curls

14. A song you wish they'd play in elevators.

Jimi Hendrix, “Little Wing.”
They don’t play music in elevators in New Zealand…

Butterflies and zebras
And moonbeams and fairy tales
That’s all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind.

15. You'll stop listening to this song when they pry your MP3 player out of your cold, dead hands.

Sam Prebble and the Bond Street Bridge Band, “Blues About The Devil.”

Well the music that he offered me was more than I could stand,
I played electric violin in Lucifer’s band.

And a moment of pimpery: Sam Prebble and the Bond Street Bridge Band is an Auckland-based four-piece band. They have a totally awesome sound, the unholy love child of Bob Dylan and the John Butler Trio and they really do have an electric violin. If you have an opportunity to see them, take it!

*phew* This took me hours, and I changed my choices about twelve times. I think I should be a little lower-maintenance… Awesome fun though.

2. Love it. This was one of those songs I actually sat down and wrote out the lyrics to, and taped from radio for that purpose. *sheepish*

4. This used to be my favourite song, just because when the old version came on, groups of people would spontaneously go "who the fuck is Alice" when there was just the music. Also, because I was in my preteen "swearing is so cool" phase.

6. I love this song, but not as much as I'm digging Suddenly Strange at the moment. Perhaps because I've only heard bits of one, whereas I've heard the other countless times.

8. I've heard the original on the So I married and Axe Murderer movie, but I do like this version better... possibly because it's a prettier voice singing it. I have a weakness for that.

11. I managed to get sick of it over time, though. And I did get annoyed with it when it acted like a songfic for Willow/Tara. But Michelle Branch can't do much wrong for me, overall.

*hee* I've always used google for my lyrics hunts, since I'm atrocious at hearing the wrong things. But it's a great song.

Re Sway: well, yeah, I've played it SO much that sometimes I even, like, skip it if it pops up on WMP. But I still love it and it;s just the idea that there are people who have never heard it, because of course Bic isn't exactly well-known most places overseas... it just makes me head explode.

And re "Goodbye to You": see, my favourite version of it is the acoustic version she plays on Buffy and I really did kind of think it was appropriate there (even as pissed off as I was with what was happening on the show at the time.)

Oh, I do that, too. But you get Googled lyrics messing it up, too. And it gave an excuse to listen to it that often. :)

Oh, most people've heard it. It's on American Pie or something, isn't it? There's some movie, where I heard it and grinned like a mad thing, though the movie sucked.

It probably is a linking of the two. My dislike of what was happening tainted it, possibly.
