Five viola pieces that should be banned.

Um. I don't really hate that many bands? I mean, I give

keymash a lot of crap, but there just isn't that much that I genuinely hate, as opposed to avoid.

Um. Sorry!

1, 2, 3, 4, and 5: Anything originally written for the violin and transcibed by well-meaning but ignorant examiners, grade music setters, and so forth. Particularly anything by Vivaldi.

*g* My knowledge is so not enclycopedic, unfortunately.

Oh, neither is mine. I was thinking along the lines of the Hoffmeister viola concerto and the Eccles, personally...basically anything that ought to be played on the violin and has more than a few lines of treble clef. (Okay, I'm a violinist too, but putting viola music in treble clef is EVIL.)

*eyebrow* Hey, you call your current season "fall." What's up with that, yo?

I actually - heh - I actually kind of enjoy treble, because I did a lot of position work early on with the viola and I think that the tone you can get out of a viola in that clef can be amazing, much more beautiful than the violin in the same ranges. But I completely agree that too much can be such a bad thing.

Heh, well what are five bands that you dislike and would not go out of your way to listen to then?!

1. Westlife, N*Sync, S Club 7 & so forth with the exception of those songs which FILL ME WITH NOSTALGIA.

2. American rap. Blech.

3. Um, don't hate me, Christian rock. Bores me to death, sorry!

4. Errrrrrrrrr.... I'm not an enormous Wagner fan?

5. Make something up. ;)

True--third and fourth position on the A string just sing.

My personal favorite piece that I've ever played on viola is the C.P.E. Bach C minor concerto...now that has some beautiful higher-range stuff, and also some absolutely wonderful low sounds...ah, that piece is amazing.
