bitch, bitch, bitch

Last week was hideous and horrible and I'm glad it is over, over, over. I handed in three assignments, one on thursday and two on friday - the thursday was beyond awful but I was very pleased with both the friday assignments so it evens out, kinda.

Went out last night with flatmate Amelia, Matt and Chontelle, and a mate of Matt's Josh, had a blast. We ended up at Mickey Finn's, where there was a pretty awesome band playing a pretty awesome selection of covers - "Cocaine" followed by "Kryptonite" is always gonna get me to like you - and then on the way home we had double-choc donuts from Big Gary's so yeah, a good time was had by all. Also on the way home we went bowling, which entails driving down Manchester street counting the number of hookers you see... I kind of wonder whether this is an activity all immature students do, or if it's just us. We have an elaborate scoring system, and everything.

I'm developing a good method of stretching limited funds for a good night out. Drink a lot of Bailey's from the bottle just before leaving. Head on over to mates' place and drink two double vodka & cokes. Go to the pub, have a screwdriver (when everyone else is having beer; I just do not like beer.) Go to club(s), have a shot, dance a lot, go home at the appropriate hour. Rinse & repeat.

Have had a very silly and unproductive day today, since it's pretty much the last day for a couple weeks I can afford to just do nothing. I re-read Neal Stephenson's Zodiac and a shitload of fanfiction, including:

[livejournal.com profile] astolat's new bit Unasked, which is a spinoff of [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock's "It Doesn't Mean You Can Explain the Ocean", which is also extremely fucking awesome. The latter is loosely Sam/Dean, the former is definitely Sam/Dean, but in a kind of fresh way.

[livejournal.com profile] sevenfists' Line and Wire, which is the latest in a series; it's SPN/Firefly and gah, I just love the whole thing, every little bit, and if you like Firefly or Supernatural or both just READ it, jeeze. The earlier stories especially broke my tiny little heart but SO worth it. The premise is: Dean winds up on Serenity. The crew's all there, and they're all fabulous, and Dean is too, and he's fabulous, and... I need a new word.

[sideline: Synonyms for fabulous, awesome, amazing, great? Anyone? I find every time I go to review I'm saying the same thing, even when I'm tailoring it to the specific fic (which I almost always do, since I just... don't comment that much) I'm using all the same words...]

I also read: all of [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock's Bruno & Boots fic; all of [livejournal.com profile] throughadoor's Bruno & Boots (seriously, when I read B&B I read it all at once, and what tends to happen is I swap over and read something by the one, and something by the other, and it gets to the point where I go away and can't remember who wrote what, with the notable exception of "Bruno Walton for STudent Body President"); and [livejournal.com profile] calathea's I Want to go Home! epic, A Very Long Summer; I was reminded again of how exactly like the books this seems, except fractionally more gay. And I do mean fractionally.

So perhaps I wasn't productive today, but it was pleasant, except I went down to get a video out and ended up with some of the fifth season of The West Wing - see, I read a good Sam and Josh-centric WW fic today and I was like, oh... I should finish watching that show. But I got it out and started watching and realised that a) I had already seen half of the episodes, on account of how I stopped partway through the fifth season; b) the reason I stopped watching was because Sam wasn't in it anymore and it was just kind of tired; c) Sam still isn't in it.

So that was lame, and now I'm probably going to go watch some Supernatural that I've seen eight thousand times already. SIGH. Life hard.
