also, I hated it when Sam grew her hair.

Is it silly that I'm putting off watching the Eureka episode in whih the Eureka people have a bowling competition against the Area 51 people purely because in my head, this episode MUST have Sam and Rodney in it, and I'll be devastated that they're not?

... yeah, never mind.

I lost this weekend in the black hole of Rachel Maddow youtube clips and maddowfans.com. This is a lot better than losing time to the black hole of nynaeve/lan fic on the Pit of Voles, which is how I spent my Friday - you come out of the former feeling sort of energised and liberal and dissatisfied instead of vaguely horrified and disturbed and dissatisfied. I don't know if I've mentioned, but Rachel Maddow is my favourite TV american of all time. However, some of the reporting around her makes me make the strangest face, e.g. this one article which talked about her exuding a raw sexuality on her TV show. In articles about the butch aesthetic. Now, do not get me wrong, she is seriously hot and I would do her in a flat second, but her TV look is about as bland and feminine as I can imagine her getting. And, you know, BLAND. She looks like a TV anchor, which is fine because that's what she is - in fact, she's talked about deliberately toning down her image for the show in order that her appearance does not detract from her message. I just - ! Anyway. People are ridiculous, Rachel Maddow is seriously clever, left, and funny, and that is why you should watch her show (if you are American or have access to Youtube). She is great-looking, in a less conventional way and that's fun, but remember everyone: she's a TV woman. They're all great-looking, that's what they do.

I haven't read the articles you're talking about, but I agree that a lot of what she's projecting on her TV show is that bland prettiness that marks a successful female TV personality. What makes her different from other anchors is the lively, trenchant way she attacks hot topics.

I know that her TV image doesn't really have much to do with the butch aesthetic, but I am wondering if that some of what they're picking up on when talking about things like "exuding a raw sexuality"? She has a lot of energy, a lot of it coming from anger tempered by humor, and that's sexy too.

:D I already watch Psych and Leverage with a tiny shred of disappointment that Eliot Spenser never shows up in the one and Shawn Spenser in the other as, like, an eccentric cousin. Now that you've mentioned it, I'm going to feel sad, too. Rodney in particular would be a joy and a half to watch talking to Allison.

Raw sexuality? Please. Being an out lesbian does not automatically give one a +5 for Sexual Charisma.
