(no subject)

Had a weekend away in wellington that was by turns amazingly wonderful (seeing old friends and my family) and screamingly shitty (seeing... my family, shitty weather, getting sick for the first time this year). But the absolute capper is getting home tonight to find that my precious and onl;y a few months old external harddrive has independently decided to WIPE EVERYTHING and I can't find any of the sixty-odd gigs of TV, movies and comics that I had saved there. I am about reading to KILL THINGS. Please, please, if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can recover any of it, I'll love you forever.

"chkdisk" is not recognised as an internal or external command, program or batchfile. Suggestions? :-/

Thanks for the help anyway, though. *kicks things* Tomorrow I'm going to take it into the shop, since it really should still be under warranty and I have a feeling I won't be able to write to it. I haven't been chucking it around the place, so....

This means WWIII is on the horizon. That's just terrible!

It is probably hardware or somehow a virus destroyed your partition table. But then again, if it didn't destroy your primary hard drive's partition table... who knows. Definitely take it in. Chances are it is hardware.

Welllll, it wouldn't chkdisk for the C drive either, and that's working perfectly fine (or, you know, as fine as it can be on a laptop that I've dropped off a washing machine and also just dropped once or twice; it has a big crack in the casing and a bare corner. But it's fine. :P)
