Had a weekend away in wellington that was by turns amazingly wonderful (seeing old friends and my family) and screamingly shitty (seeing... my family, shitty weather, getting sick for the first time this year). But the absolute capper is getting home tonight to find that my precious and onl;y a few months old external harddrive has independently decided to WIPE EVERYTHING and I can't find any of the sixty-odd gigs of TV, movies and comics that I had saved there. I am about reading to KILL THINGS. Please, please, if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can recover any of it, I'll love you forever.

At first it was just completely blank - like I'd gone through and deleted all my files. Then I checked properties and it has no space used AND no space available. And now I unplugged it and plugged it back in and "USB device not recognised."

*mutter mutter*

Thanks for the tips. I've had this one for a few months and it's been fine, really excellent and I love(d) it. I got it from... gawd, can't remember, PC world or Computer World or one of them. A chain, not a little local one. My PC's fairly up to date with drivers and Service Packs and that kind of thing, so...

The worst thing is I hadn't yet burned SPN for you. :( I'm going to redownload ASAP (when I, you know, have somewhere to put them... the kicker is that I really *need* that hd; without it I get a lot of messages telling me I'm running out of space, which is tiring.) but I can't say when I'll have it out to you. I got the DVD when I got home yesterday and it pretty much saved me from running out screaming into the pouring rain and, you know, going noisily insane and jumping in front of trucks, so, thank you!

Well, the positive thing about it having officially no space available is that it probably hasn't actually deleted anything, it's just totally fucked itself. I'd really advise trying it in another computer, or checking your data cables. If it's not recognizing the drive then you might be able to get it going with a geeky friend.

No worries. Someone just gave me The I.T. Crowd today, a bunch of South Park episodes, and The Ninth Gate, so I'm sweet for a good while (oh and I should be doing homework. Pfft.) Glad you recieved it :) if you want anything else let me know :)

I'm really, really hoping that it is fucked, yeah. Which sounds crazy, but considering it should still be under warranty and maybe the shop guys will be able to get it back... *crosses fingers* Yeah, we tried it on a couple of other computers (all Macs, but still) and didn't get anything, so.

Oh, believe me, I will. ;) But, yeah, I'll get it out to you whenever I can.
