So Joss Whedon's the new Runaways writer.

When BKV announced he was leaving, someone mentioned a couple of possible takeover writers and Joss was one of them, and I remember skimming past that and thinking, I'm sure Joss loves Runaways, but I'm not sure that would be a great idea.

Don't get me wrong, I adore Joss' work. I love Buffy and Angel and Firefly/Serenity, including the comics, and I loved Fray (although that's the extent of my familiarity with his comics stuff). But... I'm not sure that I trust him? I mean, what do I know, I still haven't read probably the last six issues of Runaways, apart from the OMG SPOILERS, so. And yet, I dunno. I mean, obviously I'll be giving him the benefit of the doubt, but... someone over on S_D said that he tends to turn all his girls into Buffy and frankly the only things that are still at all appealing about Niko are the ways in which she's not like Buffy. There's also Molly, of course, but no-one can screw with Molly. There's been a lot of discussion about how Joss is really great with characters who are tagged as girls, but not with women, and and and. Bah, I don't want to be like this, I love Runaways and I love Joss but I'm nervous! *whiny*

On the other hand, Joss *is* at the very least a more than competent writer, and it's nice Runaways is getting him. :)

Ahahaha. Joss and Runaways. Wow. I'd have so much to praise (if this happened) and so much more to bitch about! Sweet.

It looks pretty solid (seen this hysterical interview (http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=83669)?)

this interview also pretty telling. (http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=8342) Oh, man, it could be so good. *crosses fingers*

That River moment? COOLEST EVER HOLY CRAP. (Also, brilliant for multiple-purpose icons! I have been known to use this one for "you are an idiot and I want to blow your head off", "you are awesome, right on target," "GIRLS WITH GUNS" and of course the ever popular "joss is god satan god satan... SO CONFLICTED!"

Totally understand your worries. I adore Joss's work to bits, but he does have issues with writing non-girl-power-OMG girls, and with writing women. In fact, I would argue that Zoe and Inara are the only women he's ever written, and even they have some serious issues in that regard.

Eh, wait and see. It could be awesome.

Absolutely. The worst thing is that I suspect he might have been great writing Gert, because... I dunno, they seem to have a lot in common to me. BUT HE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE KILLED HER TOO, bastard.

VERY TRUE. *crosses fingers*

Christ. Forget characterisation: start worrying about who he's gonna kill off and which 'ships he's gonna shatter into a thousand tiny pieces and then stamp on just for good measure. Any current romances are DOOMED, with Whedon writing.

Fortunately (and I mean that in the most sarcastic way possible), the romance thing won't BE a problem since BKV just killed off half of my OTP. *SOB* GERT BABY I MISS YOU. Of the other characters, Chase (her, um, better half for want of a better phrase) won't be dating anyone anytime soon, Nico's romantic adventures might just be IMPROVED by Joss, nothing bad will happen to Karolina because she's gay, Xavin's her transgender alien life partner (Actually, I need to catch up on those issues and find out what their status is in current canon), Molly's WELL underage and Vic's a robot. I might be concerned about Nico/Vic or Nico/Chase but I trust Joss to figure out that those are tacky. Um. I hope.
