Things that happened this weekend
- term finished thank ye gods and little fishes! One exam on the 31st and one essay due friday and I am DONE for the year.
- I played in
win_non_con and had an AWESOME time. Participated in the scavenger hunt, which was probably the most fun I have ever had on the internet (my team was
wenchpixie,
onlymefeelinsad,
usagiko,
la_folle_allure and me, and we didn't sleep much and chatted a LOT and it was just generally great fun for five classy ladies in five different countries and timezones); our entry is here. It is funny and you should check it out, along with the other entries which are also hilarious.
- Hell Pizza opened in Riccarton! FINALLY, jeeze.

My picks for the 2006 Tuis:
Album of the Year
Bic Runga - Birds
Concord Dawn - Chaos By Design
Dave Dobbyn - Available Light
Don McGlashan - Warm Hand
Elemeno P - Trouble in Paradise
I think it's between Bic and Dave; I'm coming down on Bic's side because I am a colossal Bic Runga fan; and her album is absolutely star-studded, including Tim Finn, Anika Moa, the drumnmer from... I forget, maybe Pluto... half a dozen very recogniseable names and faces, is my point. :P
Single of the Year
Bic Runga - Winning Arrow
Goldenhorse - Out of the Moon
Mt Raskill Preservation Society - Bathe in the River
Pluto - Long White Cross
The Feelers - Stand Up
I have no pick for this one. My favourite of this lot is definitely Out of the Moon, with Bathe in the River coming in a close second and Long White Cross following at a distance. (I don't know Stand Up and although my love for Bic is pure and deep, I kind of hate Winning Arrow. No idea why; maybe it'll grow on me the way Precious Things did.) However, I think it'll be either Bathe in the River or Long White Cross.
Best Group
The Bleeders
Elemeno P
Fly My Pretties
Okay, I actually think The Bleeders will get this one. But a) I barely know their work and b) I LOVE Fly My Pretties (and so does a significant proportion of the non-C4 watching NZ music community.) Fly My Pretties RAWK.
Best Male Solo Artist
Che Fu
Dave Dobbyn
Don McGlashan
I'm just guessing. This is a TOUGH one to pick, because they're all amazing and beloved.
Best Female Solo Artist
Aaradhana
Bic Runga
Anika Moa
Bic's pretty much a shoo-in, although Anika stands a very decent chance.
Breakthrough Artist
Aaradhana
The Bleeders
Frontline
I don't know any of these and I also don't really care. :P I liked Aaradhana's work with Adeaze, but I haven't heard anything off her new album, so we'll see, I guess.
Best Music Video
Long White Cross - Pluto (dir. Adam Jones)
Wandering Eye - Fat Freddy's Drop (dir. Mark Williams) song file, but not vid; also, CD version, not radio edit
Fuji - Minuit (dir. Alyx Duncan)
I haven't seen Fuji, but Wandering Eye will so get this because it's KICKASS. Including special guest stars John Campbell and Carol Hirschfield. :P
Best Rock Album
The Bleeders, Blindspott, Elemeno P
I only like Elemeno P of this lot so I'm pretty eh about it. ;)
(okay, going to start skipping ones I don't care about... official site is here.)
Best Aotearoa Roots Album
Fly My Pretties - the Return of Fly My Pretties
Aaradhana - I Love You
Anika Moa - Stolen Hill
Yeah, FMP again. :D
People's Choice
Bic Runga - Birds
Elemeno P - Trouble in Paradise
Fat Freddy's Drop - Based on a True Story
Frontline - Borrowed Time
Goodnight Nurse - Always and Never
Pluto - Long White Cross
I'm fairly confident about this one, although I suppose it depends who can mobilise the most texters! So, hey, New Zealand, vote!
- I found out that web-based tetris exists. Um, goodbye, my chances of studying...
- A propos a discussion I had last night, AC/DC "Shook Me All Night Long" is totally a Dean/Metallicar song, mm-hmm.
- Also, it got really cold. Holy crap, hail!
ETA: now with a couple song downloads. Also, if anyone has any of the ones mentioned, particularly Bathe in the River, swap me?

How long were you eventually awake for?

Oh... I went to bed pretty soon after you did. 38 hours or so, I guess. :P

How/when would I be able to give my choir folder back? I don't want to deprive the choir of a precious folder when I'm in Welly...

Still waiting for metal album/single/group awards too.
