ABOUT YOU
Full name: Tui Rachel something something
Date of Birth: 22 July 1987
Country of Birth: New Zealand Aotearoa
Town of Birth: Auckland by technicality, Wellington by heart
Current Town: Christchurch
Closest City:... Christchurch...

YOUR COUNTRY:
Name of your country: New Zealand Aotearoa
Post a picture of your country's flag:
Oops, I mean

Post the words to your anthem:
E ihoa atua
O nga iwi matoura
ata whakarongona
me aroha noa.
Kia hua ko te pai
kia tau to atawhai
manaakitia mai
Aotearoa

God of Nations, at thy feet
in the bonds of love we meet
Hear our voices we entreat
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific's triple star
from the shafts of strife and war
Make her praises heard afar
God Defend New Zealand.

This is of course just the first verse. ;) But the second verse is kind of nice, it starts off "Men of every creed and race/gather here before Thy face... from dissension, envy, hate/and corruption guard our State" etc. The whole thing is here, although when it tells you that God Save the Queen is an anthem "of equal standing" with God Defend, they are lying through their teeth. I don't think I've ever sung God Save the Queen, although I know the tune a bit.

Post a sound file, if you can: Clicky- that link earlier also has a bunch of other ones, including Frankie Stevens and The Ministry of Internal Affairs Choir, I swear I am not making this up, and, and, Ainsley Allen. OMG remember her? "Reach out and TOUCH SOMEbody's HAND/ Make this world a BETter place/If you CAAAAaAAAAAN" *howls with laughter*

FOR COUNTRIES WITH A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE:

Name of your country's language (English \ Your language): English/Maori, properly te reo maori-- um obviously not my mother tongue unfortunately.
Name of your country in your language: aotearoa
Your Full Name: Uh... Tui something something something? I don't know how it would be transferred. Raekahera maybe? Could really be anything. Maori phonotactics don't allow any consonant clusters, and I think vowel clusters are only two per cluster; also it's a truly tiny alphabet of sounds, just, um, in phonetics /a/, /e/, /i/ /the backwards-c o sound/ and /u/ plus /h/ /k/ /m/ /n/ [ng- the palatal nasal] /p/ /r/ /t/ /w/ and /f/. So, er, I honestly have no idea.
Google your language's name, and post the first image returned:
maori and te reo maori
Finally, post a weird word \ sentence in your language: Heh. Tetaumatawhakatangihangakoauaotamateaurehaeaturipukapihimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuaakitanarahu. It's a place name- currently resting at the second-longest place name in the world, I believe- somewhere in the North Island. According to various translations, it means "The place where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed, and swallowed mountains, known as land eater, played his flute to his loved one."

OMG you're 7 days older than me. And I thought I was the only one still 17. The Department of Internal Affairs Choir, though, wtf? Bizarre.

Oops! Mistake here:
Name of your country in your language: te reo maori

Shouldn't it be Aoteroa/New Zealand? ;D
I really like the 'te reo maori' image, though the image for 'maori' is a bit in your face.

I have no idea how to sing/hum/even know the tune of 'god save the queen.'

Actually, in its full extent, it's the longest place name in the world: you have the abbreviated version. The whole thing is Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauatamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu. The middle 'turipukakapikimaungahoronuku' usually gets missed out, although, oddly enough, the translation you give includes a translation of this section (that's the climbing mountains business.)

I think the whole anthem should be sang in Maori, well okay maybe one English verse in there somewhere or something, but it sound sooo much better in Maori and is easier to learn.

Also, you get to say something that sounds remarkably like 'fuck', which is oh-so-important when you're young, or, have the maturity of a two-year-old, like me.

(Wait, we're still called New Zealand? I thought we'd been renamed Middle Earth, then Narnia, and then in the winter - All Blacks Land. Wow, live and learn.)

That's because you didn't bother to Google. (http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=longest+place+name+in+the+world&meta=)

According to fun with words (http://www.fun-with-words.com/longest_place_names.html), it's "Krungthepmahanakornamornratanakosinmahintarayutthayamahadilokphopnopparatrajathaniburiromudomrajaniwesmahasatharnamornphimarnavatarnsathitsakkattiyavisanukamprasit."

I think that wins. :P

Did you see facelift last night? The journos (holmes, campbell and hill) went to a small farming town that truly represented the whole of New zealand to ask questions for the election. It was called Matawhaka.
