Well, psychotic flatmate has finally hit rock bottom. My other two flatmates were talking to her and her bf about finding someone for the summer or having to pay rent, and she told them that she had no obligation to do either thing because she wasn't on the lease.

You know why she's not on the lease? Because it sat around for a fucking month waiting for her to sign it and she never did and wasn't around when I absolutely had to send it off.

We're all fucking furious, but this is basically the last in a long line of problems and indicators that she's completely incapable of playing nicely with others. I wasn't around at the time, but Alice has deputised me to give her shit for it next time I see her, which I righteously shall.

Fortunately Amelia has two friends who are sort-of looking for a place; one needs it on October 30th, just before exams; we will take considerable pleasure in kicking her out then. Otherwise she has a friend who might be looking now, and if she's interested we'll give Fiona two weeks' notice right the hell now.

If she's not on the lease I'd give her a week's notice, frankly; you're not under any legal obligation to give her two weeks, and it might drive the point home about rights and responsibilities coexisting.

That's what Amelia said. but just because fiona's a bad person doesn't mean I have to be.

find the person and give her a weeks notice maximum... no reason why you should play nice now.

What is it that Venom says? "I like being bed... It makes me happy."

I don't really see how removing her is being a bad person... you have no obligation to provide her with accomodation, let alone free accomodation (am I right in that she's not paying rent)?

What he said.

If she's not paying rent, I'd kick her out right now. In fact, if she's not home I'd change the locks and sell her stuff on trademe. ;)

Not really, but. Y'know.

Oh no, she's paying rent, she's just planning on stopping immediately she leaves for the summer, in early november or so.

And to specify: I don't have a legal obligation to provide her with accomodation, but I have a personal obligation not to kick her out on her ass without notice no matter how shitty she's being. That's just not how obligation works.

She is paying rent! If not she would be LONG gone. I'm just distressed at her total amorality in re: finding summer tenants.

I'm not saying _without_ notice. I'm saying that two weeks' notice is the legal obligation, but since she's making a point about not being legally covered, she can damn well take a week and be grateful. Because that's still time, and a little pettiness is acceptable under these circumstances.

That's not so bad, then. I must have got her mixed up with someone else!

Yes, I could absolutely be petty, I'm just choosing not to be because I don't think that's OK. Trust me when I say we will be pointing this out to her.

plenty of reason: it's what I choose to do.

Now, that typo obviously lends itself to plenty of innuendo, but I'll just content with saying: Choosing to the be the better person, not stooping to pettiness and similar attitudes as the flatmate, is actually very admirable; especially given the justification you have to choose acting in such a way. It is another reminder of your incredible strength of character. Well done Tui.

I think I'd be stooping.
