So, just went for the final interview with Wayne, who I'd been doing to auditions for the story recording with, and he sat me down and told me very seriously and solemnly that he had bad news, that they weren't going to be able to record Roselyne because his programming just got cut, and he has to play the stories he's already recorded, not the ones he was intending on recording.

...I'm not sure what I feel about this. Mostly, because I'm running on four or five hours' sleep a night and even that's not good sleep and I'm insanely tired and busy and stressed, I think I'm relieved. I was going to have to edit some of it to make it transferrable onto radio- I don't write to be read aloud, so some of it was either confusing or plain dumb- and I just don't have time, so mostly, relief is uppermost. Of course.... I'm also kind of disappointed (also a little annoyed that I had to go to two meetings which took up a LOT of time and contributed to the whole not-sleeping thing, and now they cancel. I mean, why couldn't they have done it at the beginning of the week?) because it would have been good in terms of exposure, also kinda a pride thing. But oh well, that's life.

Also, last night I took out my student loan, checked my savings account, and worked out my spendings- including things like transport, travel and daily expenses- are going to be coming out of $50 a week. I have no words for how annoyed I am that my Dad decided to pi8tch a fit and tell me he wasn't going to buy me anything ever again (apparently, he actually meant he would buy my stuff I can afford to buy myself- soap and stuff- but not stuff he already promised me he would buy that i need and can't afford, like a computer, sneakers, and CD player. Shit.) *headdesk*

Um. Kinda. No imrpovement, really. (But 50 a week is enough anyway, actually, because I sat down and checked and as long as I don't buy, like, Pantene Pro V or whatever, I should be alright. Should. And don't go into town much.)

No, dummy, I DON'T Have a CD player. I got given one for Christmas which was then confiscated after I didn't use it because the sound quality was kinda bad and then, trying to plug it in and set the time and start using it, complaining about it being "a piece of junk" because it didn't come with a user manual. (I still think that's a little creepy. I mean, it was still in the box and everything, and it didn't have a manual and it didn't have a warrant. Apparently they spent like $200 on it, which frankly I think they were burned, because it was impossible to use and, as I said, the sound quality was worse on it than on the one we got Clara, which Rewi now uses, and was only about $90. So I might save up and get one of them. My big splurge at the beginning of the year.)

I'm not worried about a computer for chatting, either, I mean I know I'll have access to one for that kind of thing... basically what I'm concerned about is a place to keep my ongoing work and documents, like my CV and whatever assignments I have. I mean, yes, there is a university network, but I guess I just feel insecure about not having everything on a hard drive somewhere. ;) Also I'm not sure if there are costs associated with the university computer network- are there?

Go to Dick Smiths tomorrow. Spend $46 on a flash disk - 128MB of solid state memory. You can carry all your personal stuff on it - papers, research, icons in progress, email etc. - and all you need is to be able to plug into a US port - check with the university, ut I thnk they'll let you do that. Most Internet Cafes will.

On mine, I keep my CV, my house documents (talking scans of title deeds and such), current projects and stuff, and I also use it for 21st century Sneakernet - moving print files from one system to one that has a printer attached.

Have a good trip

I just heard on the TV (here in Melbourne) that they call them USB drives over here, and probably do at Dick Smiths in Welly as well. Sale price here is $36.50

Umm. It would be a good idea, except I can't even afford that at the moment... *sigh* But hopefully I'll be getting some money on which I can spend education costs soon, & that should cover that. *fingers crossed*

Some costs, yeah - you have to pay for printing and the net - but apparently it's really, really cheap. No costs for just sitting there and working. BTW, Dad says I can take the magic stick (YESSS!!!) so we can store all your stuff on my hard drive if you want back-ups.

They confiscated your Christmas present? ...*speechless*

Paying for the net? I don't care how damn cheap it is, that's a cost. *headache*

That might be good. I'll talk to you.

Um, yeah. That's what's called LIFE, you know, like, CONSEQUENCES?

I have never criticised your parents, ever. When are you and Meg going to do me the courtesy of responding in kind?
