... but I have something planned for that tomorrow, so I'm not a totally bad person.
This is the thing: I love mix CDs. I also love normal CD-CDs, with approximately the same intensity, but there's just something charming about mix CDs, the way they can be picked exactly to your mood. I have a New Zealand mix CD, a popmix, a rock and roll mix, my Jimi Mix (probably not technically a mix becuase it's all by the one artist but...) plus half a dozen totally random mixes and my current favourite CD, the Muneya's Room Mix (don't ask.)
1. Iris by the GooGoo Dolls
And I don't want the world to see me
'cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When Everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am.
2. Sunny Came Home by, um, Shawn Colvin or something.
Sunny came home to her list of names
she didn't believe in transcendence.
"it's time for a few small repairs," she said
Sunny came home with a vengeance....
3. Ironic by Alanis.
It's like a death row pardon
two minutes too late.
A note about this song: Jeeze. Alanis. I like this song a lot. But PLEASE LEARN THE MEANING OF THE WORD IRONIC before you use it in a song, because, um, no, it's not ironic. *facepalm*
4. Breakfast at Tiffany's by, um, NO IDEA.
Well it's plain to see we're over,
and I hate when things are over
with so much left undone...
5. Summer of '69 by, er, Bryan Adams?
Me and some guys from school
had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit, and Jodi got married
shoulda known we'd never get far...
But when I look back now
the summer seemed to last for ever...
6. Fade Away, by Che Fu (er. Look! NZ music!!)
no I'd never thought I'd see the day
when you would get up out of here (so)
long-time friends, we remain the same
until you return one day,
I will never fade away on you.
7. Four Seasons In One Day, Crowded House MORE NZ! :)
I will risk my neck again,
You can take me where you will,
Up the creek and through the mill,
like all the things you can't explain,
Four seasons in one day.
8. Loyal, Dave Dobbyn. More NZ! *pleased*
And I love you tender, but we must walk away,
Keeping you on my greeting card file.
And if it were different - did you know it ain't?
Let's get on with it love...
9. Why Does Love Do This To Me? by The Exponents. NZ again.
Jackie came, she went away,
deep in the valley I kissed her that day and
It seems I'm thinking of you
But I'm still thinking of someone else...
10. American Idiot, Green Day
Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.
Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
11. Everywhere, Michelle Branch
turning inside out so I can see
the part of you that's drifting over me.
And when I wake you're never there
and when I sleep you're everywhere
You're everywhere.
12. Absolutely (Story of a Girl), um, Nine Days Grace or something?
Your clothes never wear as well the next day,
And your hair never falls in quite the same way-
But you never seem to run out of things to say...
This is the story of a girl
who cried a river and drowned a whole world
and though she looks so sad in photographs I amsolutely love her
When she smiles.
13.High, Lighthouse Family
Though it's darker than December
What's ahead is a different colour
One day we're going to get so high...
14. Fast Car, Tracey Chapman
You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far
Just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living
15. Torn, Natalie Imbruglias
I thought I saw a man brought to life,
He was warm, he came around, he was dignified
He showed me what it was to cry.
Well you couldn't be that man I adored
Don't seem to know, seem to care, what your heart is for.
There's nothing where he used to lie
The covnersation has run dry, that's what's going on,
Nothing's right, I'm torn...
So. What's your favourite mix CD right now? D'you like them? Dislike them? Do you pick them carefully so you can listen to it right the way through, or do you just hit random? (I'm guilty of the random thing. >.< Because I'm too lazy to sort out a good order.)

Date: 2005-05-02 10:55 am (UTC)I tend to make mix CDs with songs performed by three or four (around that) bands, and I pick and choose my favorites at the time. So, there's no real 'mood' that I attempt to achieve, just a high concentration of songs that I can--well, that I can bear listening to. *laughs* I choose about ten songs. I just hit random.
Here they are, in random order--except the first one, which I am listening to.
Rilo Kiley - A Better Son/Daughter
-makes me tingle.
Ozma - Lightyears Will Burn
Ozma - Spending Time
Ozma - ('kay, this is my favorite band) Korobeiniki (mandatory, c'mon.)
Death Cab For Cutie - Styrofoam Plates
Death Cab For Cutie - I Was a Kaleidoscope (I love that word. I wrote a Dada poem and made many many paper sheets with it. Kaleidoscope.:)
Cursive - Tall Tales, Tell Tales
Cursive - Mothership, Mothership, Do You Read Me?
The Magnetic Fields - I Thought You Were My Boyfriend
The Magnetic Fields - I Wish I Had An Evil Twin.
Uhh, as many genres as bands, I think. *laughs* Oh well.
Anyway: *waves* I'm Clay.

Date: 2005-05-02 02:44 pm (UTC)Metric- Combat Baby
311- Come Original
Beck- Burro
Azure Ray- New Resolution
the Eels- Rags to Rags
Electric Six- Danger! High Voltage!
Neutral Milk Hotel- Holland, 1945
The Vines- Sun Child
Bright Eyes- Falling Out of Love at This Volume
British Sea Power- A Lovely Day Tomorrow
Elbow- Flying Dream
Nick Drake- From the Morning
Pedro the Lion- Indian Summer
Radiohead- Myxmatosis
Seeed- Dancehall Caballeros
Sleater-Kinney- All Hands on the Bad One
the Starlight Mints- Popsickle
the (International) Noise Conspiracy- A Northwest Passage
the Chemical Brothers and the Flaming Lips- The Golden Path
the White Stripes- Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground
Forest for the Trees- Dream
It has just the right combination of dreamily slow songs, fast paced ones, and enough general weirdness (German reggae! Beck songs redone as mariachi tunes! Jack White yelping about starting fires!) to make a really good CD that you can listen to just about any time.
And I think the Breakfast at Tiffany's song is by Jets to Brazil, but I could be wrong. In fact, it's very likely that I am.

Date: 2005-05-02 08:54 pm (UTC)Want a story? I'll tell ya' one.
I joined the Youngwizards community, and just 'lurked'. I did a darn good job lurking, FYI. Not the story, though. ^_^ So, I noticed that you were the main one to post. So I followed your posts to your journal, and started reading it every once in a while. To make reading it easier--the entries are quite interesting, I enjoy them:)--I 'friended' you.
I mistook this entry as a post in the usergroup, so I responded.
I then left for the day, and realised something. My thoughts were something of this accord: "Hum, Clay--that post of hers was a bit off topic. Oh, wait! You friended her. Oh darn, you must've posted in her real journal! Ya' creep."
So, hello, I'm Clay and I feel like one heck of a creep.
What would you like me to do now? Never post again and 'unfriend' you, keep reading and never post, keep posting?
*goes off to be creepy*

Date: 2005-05-02 11:35 pm (UTC)Did ya' mean all of them? I'll give ya' all of 'em:
Ozma is a rock and roll band--but a lot of people say their songs are emo as well, and I can definitely see it. I just refer to them as a nice rock band. Well, I DID, before they broke up to go to college/get lives/make money. Their little twist is a keyboardist, which makes some of the songs a lot better. Korobeiniki is the "Tetris theme" song; it's a Russian folk song, and it's just plain catchy.
Cursive is a--eh, heavier band. Their songs tend to be a bit rougher, and more screamish. This is part of the reason I only listen to a few of their songs, it hurts my ears and makes me a bit, well, angry. Can't have that, hmm? ^__^ The two listed are a bit, uh, softer, although Mothership, Mothership, Do You Read Me? is a bit rougher. It's a magnificent song, regardless. *grins*
The Magnetic Fields...OK, let's call them folk, but instead of being stereotypical twangy folk, it's poppish stuff about love. I enjoy 'em, even though I can imagine some would find listening to them excruciating.

Yay, thats a cool song
Also cool
I've heard so many versions of that...
The only thing I can think of with Lyle Lovett is his role in the movie The New Guy.
Some great bands on there, pity I don't know them well enough to place the songs.
