*hiss, spit, tantrum*

The 200-level English course I really, really want to take isn't being offered next year.

ARG! Why don't they cut the stoopid "writing for stage and screen" course? Grargh. It's not like writing for stage and screen is ever going to pay- okay, okay, so poetry isn't going to either but SERIOUSLY, PEOPLE, WTF? And there aren't really any other courses at 200-level I want to take- oh, okay, except Children's Literature, which ALSO IS NOT BEING OFFERED. Man, English department, all I want to do is write poetry and study Frances Hodgson Burnett, WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO?

Is it wrong of me to not want to take courses on the eighteenth century novel? Or drama? Or NZ literature? (okay, I feel guilty about that last one. It would be sort of nice to study Witi Ihimaera, but I'm not a Frame fan *guilt guilt HUILT*) Okay, History of the English Language looks quite interesting, and so does Shakespeare on Film- but that was a special topic and it's not going to be offered again. *glum* and it's a real shame, because that also looks totally cool. And The Taming of the Shrew was on the list, which means they probably did 10 things I hate about you. How unfair is this, world?

*sulks and wanders off to go look at Philosophy courses*

You could take a philosophy of art course, if you're going to go that way. I've been sulking all year about not being able to take English and an aesthetics course is a great substitute as well as being valuable as a base for future lit courses.

But yeah, that does suck. Universities are fickle.

Uch. That sucks.

Shakespeare on Film? Awesome. I visited Vanderbilt with two of my friends last year, and we sat in on a class like that, except it was Jane Austen books. They watched Clueless and discussed it in relation to Emma.

I'm actually probably going to go with Logic A or B, whichever one they offer. Quite far from Philosophy of Art, admittedly, but I loved it first semester. ;) Epistomology and Metaphysics and Ethics both look interesting as well, although this may be because I really, really want to take soe, thing with a complicated title like Epistemology and Metaphysics... ;)

They are. Curse 'em.

It fully, fully does.

Yeah, I know, I thought it would be pretty cool too. I suppose I can always leave it till 2007 or something. :-/

Epistemology is pure evil. Seriously. It's paranoia. You come out of it thinking 'I don't know anything... garrr!' and then feel all confused for the next week, and end up questioning whether it is possible to know anything at all. And this was just the two-week introduction. I wonder how epistemologists sleep at night.

*huggles* That is poos. But you can always take them the year after, can't you?

Sounds awesome. :D

Plus, come on.
"I have class today."
"Oh yes, what class?"
"Epistemology and Metaphysics."

Tell me your inner academic snobby bitch doesn't just spasm in joy. ;)

Well, yeah. But I kind of don't want to, because 2007 I sort of want to be getting my majors over and done with in terms of second-year. I suppose I could do that next year, but meh, then I wouldn't really have an excuse for sticking around the next year, you know? Oh well, though. I'm sure I'll find something to fill the gap.

I gaily claimed that I would do an English lit major without doing any Shakespeare, Chaucer or work before the Romantic period.

That sucks balls. Frances Hodgson Burnett is a genius.

It should be possible. I kind of like Shakespeare, myself, but it's a matter of taste, innit? :D

She totally is. well, was. You know.

Have you considered doing massey extramural papers and getting them cross credited? Their poetry paper is likely to stay. they are doing a children lit over summer school at least (but only at 100 level).

No, this isn't so you'd have to visit for contact courses.

Really.

It's not that I don't want to visit you, I 100% do. But I'd rather not do extra-mural because all my experience with correspondence-style courses suggest that it's really not a good option for me- I just don't do the work. Also, I have to work this summer. *le sigh*

thanks for the suggestion, though. :)

I sort of want to be getting my majors over and done with in terms of second-year.

I.e. you don't want to find yourself doing like five 300 level papers in your last year?

I wish I'd been as smart as you...

Well, yeah, this is my line of thinking. Although, when you consider, I'm theoretically doing a BA/BSc with a double major in... one of them... and I'm not even sure what my three majors are...

... yeah, I think I might be hanging around for more than four years.

And then there's Honours.

And Masters.

I think I'll stop after that and try my hand at, you know, earning money, though.

:D I am thinking about it! But I seriously, honest to god, Linguistics and Philosophy and Maths and French and English And Side Papers in the Sciences REALLY REALLY REALLY HAVE ENOUGH SUBJECTS ALREADY. omg. And that's not even mentioning the Latin and Maori I would really fucking love to be able to do. But BA/BA is so... uncool.

Wah! I want a classical education! *sob*

Whaaaaat??!!!! That's the freaking awesome paper I took this year, that I advised you to do! Man, that's weird, I wonder why?? I know Claire Hero is taking a couple of Creative Writing Honours papers, which I'm pretty sure I'll be doing, but cutting 231...stwange, vewy stwange...

I did Children's Lit. in my second year...must confess I wasn't overly fond of it, I've done better courses. Was rather ticked off that they got to do "The House at Pooh Corner" this year!

NZ Lit. at 200-level is fecking brilliant. Not a Frame fan eh...BLASPHEMY!!!

I know. I'd already been planning on doing it since at least last year (BTW, how much do they want in the portfolio? Um do you think any of the stuff I've been doing would be appropriate?) so this is a kick in the guts. :-/

Heh yes. Well, I thought it looked cool. As for NZ lit- I know it's blasphemy. *glum*

Aren't you just doing the one BA? Bas by themselves, especially good ones, would be fine, it's just a double BA that makes me go "...no."

Even if I most likely will end up with enough points for half a dozen BAs. *faceplant*

Yes, it would be appropriate. I think we had to sumbit between 2 and 5 poems...I only sent in 2!

I had no idea you can actually do a double B.A....hmmm.

Aw man, I got hassled today (in a jovial manner, of course) by my good mate for having a Arts degree. *rolls eyes* Just cos she's doing Accounting, I mean really! I always got it in the halls as well, living with a zillion engineers, who always had me on for doing a Bachelor of McDonalds. It would always hit a nerve, cos there are times when I'm terrified that I'll end up having spent all this money on various qualifications, and I'll have no bloody job! I don't know why I had to go and pick the impossible career paths...publishing is a bastard to get into, they're massively phasing out radio announcers, there's no money in writing to start with, and I don't know if I'll ever get into journalism school for a start...*shakes head* fun times.

Sorry, I really needed to get that out! Mind you, I always bag Engineering and Commerce, so who I am to talk?! lol

Where you major in two arts subjects?

Well, I don't know if you can. Probably you can't, it just becomes a BA with a triple major or whatever. *shrug*

Eh *pats* Hey, no matter what happens, at least you can comfort yourself with the memory that you didn't do Commerce and Accounting.
