Dec. 29th, 2009 08:09 pmSo guise, I had a really super time doing
yuletide this year, and I really can't wait to show y'all what I wrote. But I had such a good time I'm also thinking about maybe doing some NYR challenges, but I know I won't do them unless I have a reason to. What do y'all thinking about someone running a structured-ish NYR challenge, where you sign up and have to do 1 NYR fic a month, every month? (maybe with the option to opt out at the beginning of the month if you know it's not going to be a good one.) Is anyone already doing something similar? Should I spam
yuletide in the middle of all the rec posts and see what other people think? Would you play if I did do it? (There wouldn't even be a word limit... *tempts*)

Date: 2009-12-29 10:02 am (UTC)OTOH, it's a bit of a misnomer to call yuletide a fan community. Yuletide is a huge exchange for rare fandoms, but it tends to be participated in by people from diverse fannish backgrounds - so you have me, whose primary fandom is a yuletide fandom (Young Wizards) but who also reads in a bunch of non-Yuletide fandoms, but you also have people whose primary fandom is, say, a big one like Stargate Atlantis but who does Yuletide to get A Dog's Breakfast fic, or someone like my friend Aria who's a fannish serial monogamist who moves from fandom to fandom, of whatever size, but who does Yuletide every year anyway. And you also have people who only do yuletide - in terms of writing fic, I'm a bit like that! But there are fans out there who don't really do any reading or writing except in Yuletide, who aren't interested in participating in fannish circles in other ways. &c. So basically, the rest of the year Yuletide participants do a lot of other things, and all come together in a touching, festive miracle for Yuletide!
