Well fair enough, but to be honest I think the point I was making is still valid even if it was badly expressed here. I tick "other" and mark "Pakeha" as my ethnicity because it's what I identify as, and I suppose I don't mind either way if I need to continue doing that. But I persist in thinking that white New Zealanders who tick "other" and mark "New Zealander" are not coming from a good place. "New Zealander" does not mean "white" and shouldn't be taken to imply that. White is not the default ethnicity of a New Zealander.
