Went to a party last night that I was totally intending to come home from. Five (large) vodka and cokes and two Smirnoff Blacks (about 2 std drinks each) later... "Oh, oops, it's five past midnight, I missed the last bus home." Cut to half-past three, I collapse on the couch; cut to half past seven, I fall out of the couch and onto the bus. Cut to 10 am, I'm at work for nine freaking hours.

And then, walking home? Took me about twice as long as it normally did, because, believe it or not, I had an asthma attack. Like, what?

So now I'm going to watch Malcolm in the Middle as comfort television and then maybe sleep a lot. But before I do that, I'm looking for someone to thoroughly beta ~1000 words of light Tom/Carl post-W@W fic (comment fic for that post. If I still owe anyone fic from that, harass me and I'll get onto it, as I'm planning a write-up of everything from that post soonish). Also, a less thorough beta for ~500 words of Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell fic that I'm actually awfully proud of. Same origin, gen, post-book featuring the elder and younger Misses Greysteel. Any offers of help, anywhere?

Also? If I was thinking about writing "The Boggart" fanfiction, who would be interested in reading it? (Fact: the only two people who have "The Boggart" as an interest in all of nearly 1,000,000 LJ users are me and... [livejournal.com profile] eavanmoore. I take this as I sign I pick my friends well.

Hmm, I may be completely wrong here , but isn't "the boggart" about a boggart who gets transported to america by mistake? Or am I off the planet?

Bleugh - what a day! I'm sorry I can't offer to beta either of your fics as I'm not familiar with the fandoms.

I haven't heard of The Boggart either. Enlighten me?

What's The Boggart?

I'd be interested in Strange and Norrell but I have no idea of the expectations of a beta... Can I read it anyway?

Spot on! It's a lesser-known work of Susan Cooper (of Dark is Rising fame)

:) Aw, thanks for the thought though!

OMG YOU FAIL AS A YA FAN. It's by Susan Cooper, I would have completely thought it would be right up your alley! :O

*plots* maybe I can loan it to you.. hm. Have you a library nearby? Cos if not mebbe I'll send it to you and MAKE YOU READ IT (it'll take like 20 minutes, it's not very long but I like it. I mean it's not a Work of Staggering Genius like, say, The World Around the Corner (notw out of print, apparently) or A Very Long Way From Anywhere Else or, hell, TDIR... but it's neat. I admit it;s a comfort book, though; I reread it this week because I've been staving off a bout of flu/cold until the end of term (friday, but I have an essay due monday. Tomorrow evening I can relax and become ill,))

OMG TOO MANY PARENTHESES.

A lesser-known Susan Cooper book. I like it but hardly anyone's heard of it. Y'all fail.:P

Of course! here (http://labellementeuse.livejournal.com/154518.html?thread=1639062#t1639062), in un-beta'd form. Here's hoping I get a beta...

World Around theCorner is the one with the green glasses and the martyr heroes right?

I loved that.

*hugs* Hangovers at work? Never good.

I'd read the story, despite not knowing the fandom. In any case, it's a way to get people interested. :)

Funny that no one recognizes The Boggart so far. Are they all from New Zealand? Maybe it was more popular in the US because the main characters were Canadians?

Anyway, I'd read it.

The Boggart? That book by Susan Cooper that I read in the fifth grade because I had run out of books in The Dark Is Rising sequence? I didn't think anyone else had actually read that.

It had a sequel. I read that too.

Woe! I bought the five book series by Susan Cooper to read just recently. Haven't got round to it yet :S I did read the second book for fourth form English, and to be honest didn't think much of it, but I try again.

I keep meaning to join the library up here, so I shall go and check it out this week.

Erm... I haven't heard of A Very Long Way From Anywhere Else either...

You may have been almost right- people really don't seem to know it. *shrug* Well, I like it! And the sequel, too. :P

well, I love the DIR series with a passion beyond passion, but I suppose it osn't for everyone. TB is distinctly written by the same person, but otherwise very different in many respects. (You might also like the books with the Drews more than the ones with Will alone.)

It's always the first thing that I do when I move somewhere...
