[livejournal.com profile] shoeless_sarah and [livejournal.com profile] manic_subbie both posted "books read so far this year" lately. I thought about what mine would look like, and went kind of crimson. My reading habits for the past eighteen months have not been good, being focussed mainly around re-reading comfort books. So I thought I'd start one of my own. It's possibly a little off, because it's March; I couldn't possibly hope to remember everything I've read this year.

Reads
* particularly enjoyed; ** reccomended to all.
Tamora Pierce, The Will of the Empress" *
Susanna Clarke, Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell **
Brian K Vaughn, Runaways *
Paullina Simons, Eleven Hours
Jane Espenson (ed), Finding Serenity: Anti-heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly **
Keith R A de Candido, Serenity (Novelisation)
Kate Atkinson, Case Histories **
Diane Duane, The Door Into Sunset (I think that was this year...)
Charles de Lint, Waifs and Strays**
Jenny Diski, Strangers on a Train
Gotham Central (the whole run); I highly recommend the Half a Life trade.
Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic**, Local Girls, Turtle Moon
Gothic! an anthology of YA horror
Diana Wynne Jones, Deep Secret
Marjane Satrapi, Persepolis**, Embroideries (graphic novels)
Naomi Novik, Temeraire, ** Throne of Jade **

Notable Re-Reads (I'm not going to put everything I re-read down here, because that would just be dumb)
Diane Duane, Wizards at War, SYWBAW, DW
Chaim Potok, The Chosen
Garth Nix, Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen (okay, I may have read Sabriel in December. It counts.)
James Herriot, All Creatures Great And Small (the first omnibus), The Lord God Made Them All
Sherryl Jordan, Winter of Fire
Melina Marchetta, Looking for Alibrandi
Terry Pratchett, Thud
Diana Wynne Jones, Conrad's Fate, The Lives of Christopher Chant, Hexwood

Next month:
Patricia Grace, Cousins
Chaim Potok, The Book of Lights
Anne McCaffrey, Generation Warriors
Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo (re-read)
Naomi Novik, Temeraire
DWJ, Hexwood

And... I think I need a savings target list, because last night I had a dream about going skiing and I remembered I need to look at planning a trip to Methven. And, wow, even if I go during the week and get a mid-week season pass that's $250 (to be paid before the 20th April...) plus gear hire which can be a lot depending (usually we hire in Wellington which is nquite cheap but this'll be without my family so uh..) plus food plus cleaning plus petrol costs or possibly bus to the place plus bus/shuttle up the mountain costs... yeah, I'm lookg at at least $500. And that's an absolute minimum. And half of that within three weeks, which ias basically only possible if I get my father to a) loan me or b)contribute. And today in the UCSA I saw these gorgeous handmade skirts which reminded me I need a black skirt (hopefully floofy!). And I'm sure there are other things I want, like books. So.

Mt Hutt Midweek Pass, $250
Black Floofy Skirt, $35 (very achievable, but see above)
Skiing Trip, $250 minimum & probably higher
TOTAL: $550
PROGRESS: Maybe $150-200, unless something comes up...

*scratches head* how often would be annoying to update this? Maybe if I went back and edited it, or futuredated it. Hm, that's a real possibility... call this my resolutions post, and just be glad it doesn't have a section on weightloss or fanfiction written. :P

I read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell about a month ago. Oh, I loved it.

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell was another extremely popular book that I could just not get in to. I should really try again I guess.

Will of the Empress was AWESOMELY good, yes. Rosethorn/Lark = ultimate OTP. (Actually, I really, really like the idea of youthful Rosethorn/Crane too - it just makes so much SENSE).

I really need to write CoM fanfic. Tortall fanfic just doesn't do it for me so much, I'm not really sure why.

One of my teachers was raving about Waifs and Strays. What's your take on it? I haven't got much free time, so I'm looking for something that's really worth my time.
