So I'm watching Friends and eating Oreos (I can't believe I just wrote that, by the way. Friends. Oreos. Next thing I'll be calling them cookies and dunking them in milk.) but! On the side of the package there's this little logo- I'm guessing it's probably just the appropriate script, actually- and it says "halal"! Oreos are halal!

... I thought it was interesting, okay.

Yeah. We use the word cookies, but only for a very specific sort of biscuit- flat, and usually with something in them, like chocolate chip cookies, or peanut cookies, or raising cookies. Oreos are definitely biscuity. :P You also couldn't get Oreos in New Zealand until, oh, about five or six years ago. I grew up wondering what oreos and graham crackers were, and the only reason I know about graham crackers is a friend sent me a box.

I think what you guys call biscuits, we call scones. I'm not sure what we call what you guys call scones. Oh, language, it's a wonderful thing...

Huh....

We call lumpy, somewhat heavy, biscuits, sometimes with raisins in them, sometimes triangular-shaped, scones. And fluffier things I call biscuits.

You don't dunk Oreos in milk? Blasphemy.

An Oreo is best eaten double-stuffed and fresh from a glass of milk. It just isn't the same any other way.

I guess we'd call all of the above scones. :)

I had to Wiki double-stuffed. oh my god, there are so many varieties (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oreo#Varieties) of oreo. I mean oh my god you people...! We only have plain and chocolate cream, although I have to say double stuf sounds gooooood.

Double Stuf is my fave variety. Why not- you get double the best part- the creamy goo in the middle!

...then again, we have fifteen million varieties of everything. You name, it they make it in dark, milk, and white chocolate, with peanut butter, caramel, or flavoring.
