Frankenmix #3: The Sky That We Lie Under.

1. A song for quitting your job.
John Butler Trio – Mist
Instrumental guitar and a little percussion, it’s quite short and a little bit country, but what it really has is impetus. And that’s what I’d need to quit my job.

2. A song for committing a crime.
The Mountain Goats - Dilaudid
Put on your gloves and black pumps
Let's pretend the fog has lifted
Now you see me, now you don't
Now you say you love me
Pretty soon you won't

3. A song for grooving on the subway.
Safri Duo – Played a Life
Another instrumental, this one’s dance/electronica, which is really unusual for me. Anyway, I don’t travel on a subway but I bus a lot, and anything I listen to has to be instrumental or I, uh, start singing. And this one’s bouncy enough to keep me in a good mood.

4. A song for being a hero.
Cat Stevens – Tea For The Tillerman
Bring tea for the tillerman, steak for the sun,
Wine for the woman who made the rain come
Seagulls sing your hearts away
Cause while sinners sin, the children play.

5. A song for taking an unexpected road trip.
Bic Runga – Election Night
Drive me miles away,
Escape the sky that we lie under
Of all the dreams we cannot shake
We’re always shaking in our slumber in the car.

6. A song for cooking a five-course meal.
Ry Cooder - El Cuarto de Tula
This one does have lyrics but, uh, I don’t know them. It’s relaxing and I can dance to it, which is what I do when I cook. It’s from the Buena Vista Social Club album, which I often cook to, because it makes me feel good in my skin.

7. A song for making the world a stage.
Fatboy Slim – Because We Can
Because we can can can can can.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KBD8MN8A
8. A song for drinking the last glass of wine.
Israel Kamikawiwo’ole – Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World
This is a really sweet and soothing version of these two songs, and desperately intimate, which is what drinking the last glass of wine feels like to me.

9. A song for grand and/or ridiculous romantic gestures.
Stellar* - Violent
Pretty violent
Runners up in a casualty
Lost all common sense,
Both parties call victory.
One delusional, then there’s me.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1ALGCO6O
10. A song for seducing your favourite celebrity.
K’s Choice – Virgin State of Mind
This is from the Buffy episode Doppelgangland, the one with two Willows. I don’t know that it’s all that seductive but it sounds pretty fucking hot, especially with the attendant visuals.
Like, do you think I’m sexy,
Do you think I really care?
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4XRZ7004
11. A song for confessing your unrequited love.
Frankie Valli – Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You
Can’t take my eyes off of you,
You’d be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6F5E138L
12. A song for dancing the night away.
Sam Prebble & The Bond Street Bridge Band- The Crow on Your Back
But when we walk with my hand in my hand through the wind,
I feel like we could conquer the heavens;
And when we dance I can fly without moving my wings,
I’m giving no thought to leaving.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZI71AKXA
And a minor personal note: I'm not around much at the moment. If I owe you a drabble or a conversation or a comment, I'll hope to get around to it as soon as possible and I'm sorry for the delays.
