In the context it could be the implication that Davis is gay is not remarkably in and of itself but the fact that he's married to a woman implies that their marriage is somehow a sham, hence it's as valid as Brash's affair (which I'm not yet convinced of the validity of). Got to say though, I agree that Clark is giving this accusation way too much time.
