Mar. 12th, 2005 09:53 pmSo I'm currently going through a ohase of losing some of my faith in the Labour government, mostly because of
1) Don Brash
2) Trevor Mallard
3) Don Brash
and you know, the reason the leader of the National party is killing me is because Labour is constantly responding to him in ways that I feel betray what I will be voting for in the coming election, okay.
But then I'm re-reading someone's old journal entry about voting in the US election, and voting for Kerry/Edwards even though they were the only two members of the senate to abstain from voting on the marriage protection act, and I think well, however much Labour is flinching from The Maori Issue (tm), and whatever I think of the way they're rising to the NCEA bait (although, seriously, this is a government-wide problem. I feel angry that I spent three years of my life sitting a qualification that probably wasn't properly tested and now NO-ONE'S DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT because Labour's trying to cover their asses and National's just stirring the shit. Come on, I want to see a unified government of NZ choosing to do the right thing, which is basically to put a lot of money into doing whatever they have to do to fix it, and also giving me French scholarship would be great too. Although I also thoink they're over-reacting a tiny bit- some of the problems they're hvaing, like consistency of marking across subjects, are really easily fixable and predictable problems.) and anyway, the problems I have with the Labour government may be large, but at least I trust them to pass the Relationships Act bill and not stuff it up (this, by the by, is the stuff that will actually legalise the CUB in terms of partner benefits and so forth; although it's been pointed out that the bill has actually been changed slightly, in that an amendment which was going to have heterosexual and homosexual de facto couples be forced to apply for welfare in the same way has been changed, so that gay couples actually have a financial advantage in that they will be able to apply as individuals which straight couples cannot do. The MP who actually pointed this out when he withdrew his support for the bill indicated he thought it was because Queen Helen didn't want to lose gay support for the bill, which, basically, I think is wrong. I think the MP in question, forgot his name, is right, but for a different reason than the one he thinks he's giving.)
Too many parentheses, so I will close. But in conclusion: Dear Helen, sometimes you piss me off. But it could be worse: I could be in a country that thinks Kerry is liberal.

PS: Lucy, Tim Barnett is the CHCH central MP, Gerry Brownlee is the Ilam MP. So, um, we get to vote for Julian Blanchard, or alternatively I'll just vote for Annette because my dad's her no 1 fan.
