So my whole updating every other day thing didn't go so well. Ended up with two weeks in London, went to approximately 1 million museums, still haven't gotten over the wall at the Museum of Natural History which said that the primary function of breasts was to be a visual indicator of sex and to attract men (Yes! It really said that! Also it had two walls with like, pictures of the average woman and the average man at different ages - like a growth chart - and in the final picture the woman was holding a baby and the man wasn't. Let's really hammer in those gender roles at a young age (the natural history museum seemed to be aimed primarily at children between the ages of 6 and 15.) Favourite museum: probably the national portrait gallery which was AMAZING. Favourite yarn shop: Loop. Favourite show: I went to the ballet (with hilariously restricted views), The Cherry Orchard, Arcadia and Wicked. They were all excellent in completely different ways so I won't pick one.

At the moment I'm in Bordeaux just for four days (last day tomorrow) staying with my exchange sister Clara (there's no non-awkward way to say that in English or French afaik - I'm her host sister or soeur d'accueil but there's no equivalent term and it really bugs me.) Anyway things I have learned: 1. it's so so so so so so so so hot here and 2. my French is OK in conversation if everyone's talking slowly (hard to achieve in France) but it sucks in high-pressure situations like talking to staff in shops. "Je ne parle qu'un peu du francais" has gotten a real workout. and 3. I love french food (which I already knew, but you can buy brioche in like supermarket breadbags and unlike all supermarket bread AND all brioche in NZ, it's delicious!) However 4. the French don't really understand smoothies - I got a strawberry smoothie and, um, they poured some kind of strawberry smoothie mix (which didn't look like it had any dairy of any kind anywhere near it) into a jug with a metric tonne of ice and blended it for awhile. You really shouldn't need a spoon to eat your smoothie. On the other hand since it was mostly made of ice and artificial sugar flavour and see 1., it was kind of perfect.

Also: I saw the pilot/tv movie thing for Virtuality (it has Clea Duvall, you know how I feel about her!) and I really hope Fox change their minds about it because I would watch the hell out of that. Space opera! Awesome.
