Some things about Supernatural:
1.
OK, well, I was SO excited about Folsom Prison Blues that, while I enjoyed it, it didn't quite meet my expectations of incredibleness. But it was still pretty awesome and a lot better than Hollywood Babylon, which was fun and silly but a little too navel-gazing for me. I kind of felt that FPB could have benefited from being more tense - I didn't real feel a sense of foreboding threat. There was definitely a sense that Henriksen was way more of a threat to the boys than the actual monster, which I think is excellent, but I would have liked to feel both threats a little bit more. A lot more tension within the prison would have been great.
I was really happy to see Mr Freaky Agent back, though!
Did anyone think Mara whatserface, lawyer chick, looked a lot like Kate from Angel? I don't know, something about the eyes and the brow line, maybe, she just reminded me of her intensely. (And, hah, apparently Randall was in a Buffy episode, which is where I recognised him from.)
I did like the way Dean was way tough when c.v. the prison inmates, it's always nice to get confirmation that the boys are badass, but - jeeze, OK, I really just want Sam to beat someone up. yeah yeah he's a sweet guy and I think his actions in this ep were very in character, but the impression I get from the whole show is that Dean is always the one saving Sam's ass and Sam just isn't as competent, or isn't allowed to be competent. My favourite moment in Night Shifter (prob my favourite episode this season, I think, closely followed by ELAC) was the moment where Sam turns around and beats up SWAT guys. Come on, that's AWESOME. So why can't he beat up a couple prison inmates? Sigh.
2. I had some comment about meta in the show that I was completely planning on working up into a whole post and I have completely fucking forgotten it. Dammit.
3. The promo for next week is so exciting I watched it ten times in a row and actually started hyperventilating because I was holding my breath for the whole thing. I am not usually given to hysterics so I am pretty damn excited. *tones self down*
4. I've had Supernatural: Origins preordered for a few weeks but the coverart is so fugly my enthusiasm has kind of been dampened (I really can't deal with bad comic art.) BUT. this preview (five pages plus some concept art) is so cool that I'm even liking the admittedly somewhat funky art. But I think it works in context!
