Some miscellaneous things:

1. If you are not in Smallville fandom, you may just have to accept that pairing smooshes are not for you! "Paire"? Are you serious?

2. I watched the entire first season of Friday Night Lights and now I have the urge to say "y'all" a lot and turn all my "really"s into "real"s. This is a real problem for soemone with a kiwi accent.

3. I got a couple of assignments back over the last two weeks - my ethics essay (A+ which I am so fucking thrilled with; I was actually having nightmares about that essay, which, yes, it does disturb me, but I really want to do well in that class and I just wasn't that happy with my finished product, so.) 3/20 for my math251 assignment, which could have been a lot worse. Um, a little bit worse. I answered about half a question, so, really, it could have been worse.

And 9/10 (A+) for my poetry essay. Which is fine and all, except for the first time ever I've had my style criticised. Um? Once for agreeing the reader with them (which, OK, I accept is a fair grammatical criticism) once for using although twice in a paragraph - really fair enough, ouch - and twice for the phrase "dealing with". :-/ It's apparently too colloquial, and while on reflection I could have used "addressed" - I don't know, I really feel that "deals with" says something more than "addresses". Siiiiiiiigh.

Seriously. You haven't encountered the term Paire? Even the Heroes writers have given in and accepted the name-smoosh shipping convention. (They were explaining why it would be a Bad Idea for Sylar to absorb more than just powers from people. Charlie was the example used. You may extrapolate as appropriate.)

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the convention, but, eh, I can't be bothered swimming against the tide of fandom for something this minor. And the HP actual-ship-names convention seems not to have spread outside the fandom, which I find a great shame.

Hee, so I'm finding! (And way, way better than the new zealand you-plural dialect word, which is "youse" or often "youse guys" which a) sounds awful and b) is a HUGE, huge lower class/uneducated marker. :-/) But, you know, it just sounds.... funny when I say it.

There's some American dialect that uses "youse" but I can't remember exactly... I want to say some places in New York? (New York City region, Philadelphia, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula, says Wikipedia. There you go.)

Yeah, it probably does sound a little funny in any accent other than Southern or generalish American. (I can sound like either, depending.)

The NY region is also, I'm pretty sure, the region that has most in common with the NZ accent, so that doesn't really surprise me (although "most in common" doesn't say that much.)

I'm pretty sure, yeah. Actually I particularly remember learning about code switching when it comes to people who actually speak two completely different languages, as opposed to two I guess dialects you'd call them, but I'm pretty sure the same term applies. People who code switch generally use each language or dialect in quite specific ways or places, like generally there'll be a different one for education and work than the one for home. It's all really interesting! :D
