Kids! I'm compiling some SGA fanfic recs for a friend. There are two catches:
1. She hates spoilers and she's only half-way through season 2. I am going to include some stuff from later season but I'll warn for it, so I'm looking for AUs, or for older stuff, or for stuff which you can tell me which season it came from!
2. I'd like to cut down on the gratuitous sex. So I'm recommending - well, the usual suspects regardless of whether they have sex (Freedom's Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose is great from this perspective! No sex at all!) and Victors and Lifetime Event regardless of the sex quotient, but for example I'm probably not going to recommend anything by [livejournal.com profile] helenish, or... OK, a lot of the stuff I read.

I'm sort of struggling here, but - it's SGA fandom! There's EVERYTHING. Help, anyone? (Note: I probably have the big name authors covered, i.e. people who've written a hell of a lot and most of it's good, but people who've written one-offs that are brilliant but whose identity will escape me are probably good bets. Who wrote the one where they're, I don't know, cattle ranchers in the outback?

ETA: A Supermarket in California? Hard to google for! ILU, Ginsberg, but get outta my google results!

By your description of "big-name" she qualifies, being both prolific and good, but I have no idea if SGA fandom is so cohesive you'd definitely have her, so... have you got [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine's work?

If not: http://www.offpanel.net/dmz/sga.html -- click the year for a more detailed list of the stories from it, and they'll generally have dates written and often indications as to when they're set relative to the episodes.

She mostly/entirely does genfic in this fandom; this is not to say nobody in her stories ever has sex, but they usually do it off camera. She writes fantastic OCs, looks at some of the disquieting implications of the story, and often tries to find ways "behind the scenes" to bring what happens on the TV into a friendlier relationship with the realities of the military. And academia. And so forth.

Regarding "prolific": when she says "drabble," she doesn't mean a hundred-word ficlet, she means something that doesn't get past a few thousand.

I actually hadn't thought of her at all, because while I have read one or two things by her I normally just don't think about gen at all - so thank you! She's a good one.
