It is so hot. SO HOT. I can't deal. It's september, it has been this hot on and off since the beginning of september which is like, THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING. It was a warm enough winter, so it's not that surprising, but if it doesn't cool down every now and then I'll... buy some cooler clothes so I'm not wearing jeans and suffering all the time, I guess, sigh. It's so hot that, get this, I already started cooking so I'd have time to make potato salad and not have to spend an hour in the kitchen with the sun setting directly in the window at five thirty. Also, of course, potato salad is refrigerated and therefore not hot, which I can get behind. (I have never made potato salad before, as "salad" usually says to me "lettuce and spinach." However, despite the summery heat, the vegetables have not yet caught up to the fat that we need salad greens at lettuces are $3.50 a head.) (On the other hand, just don't talk to me about broccoli right now. $5/kg? Seriously?)

Of course, it's still freezing the second it gets dark so I will have to wear jeans to D&D tonight. Plus side, that means I don't have to shave, minus side all my jeans are dirty except the pair that are too small. Pout!

I HATE THE HOT. I don't own summer clothes, for real. ugh.

Ditto. I would rather be warm than chilly, but I'd MUCH rather be cold than hot, you know?

You don't have to shave if you don't want to regardless of what sort of legwear you're wearing. Don't let society's standards of female beauty get to you!

On a less serious note, how's DnD going?

lololol thanks for warning me about pernicious social messages! I don't like wearing skirts/shorts when I haven't changed because I don't like the way I feel or the ways my legs feel. I accept that the first is a consequence of absorption of social standards that I abhor, but I'm not principled enough to make myself feel bad, yanno?

It's going great! Had a super-awesome fantastic roll tonight when I rolled 3 natural 20s in a row, it was kind of fun (unfortunately failed to confirm third critical, but still.) We're in the midst of classic underground tunnel play, on the way to see dragons. It's bags of fun, I really enjoy the way battle plans are constricted by the tunnels we're in and our relative positions - in this battle our official tank, a paladin with an AC of 21 and 26 HP (for context, we're third-level characters), basically sat blocking off one tunnel and killing orcs as they ran at him, while we got to play around with the other fifteen or so (there were about 26 all up, it took quite a long time but was a lot of fun to play.)

Can't say I know from personal experience, but I see where you're coming from, yea.

So you use the multiple criticals rules, eh? I've played in games that use them but it can get a bit ridiculous so when I'm DMing I usually say one critical is plenty.

Good to see you're enjoying it. I kind of miss the underground tunnel stuff myself, but my players have a terrible habit of steering clear of any dungeons I try to nudge them into. Perhaps I need to be more pro-active.

Oh, and I feel your pain re: leafy greens. I don't know if it's seasonal, generic rising food prices or some combination of the two, but it's really expensive to try and get a daily serving right now.

Yeah, we do use multiple criticals - my DM was talking about it to a newer player (the people I'm playing with are a core group of four guys who've been playing together for a really long time, plus a bunch of their hangers-on - - all of whom are new players like moi - and Matt, who's played before but not with these guys, so occasionally he'll notice a house rule, like multiple criticals, which we assumed was standard.) I wasn't listening, but I'm pretty sure at least 50% of it is that it's damn cool to row three natural 20s in a row and have it be worth something ;)

We had a truly tremendous argument within the party about how, and if, to get down there, I have to admit. But in the end we convinced the doubters that our interpretation of the prophecy was correct!

Yes, I agree - I really enjoy a salad for lunch so it sucks.

The problem I've had with multiple criticals is that, at higher levels, it's possible to exploit them. A character who uses a high crit weapon like a Scimitar or Falchion and uses some sort of crit-enhancing magic or feat can get a critical on a 15 or higher. That's 25% of all hits being criticals, which is, IMO, okay if only one critical is possible, but potentially game-breaking if he can stack them.

But I do agree that the sheer coolness of rolling multiple 20s (in our group, Sarah has a habit of doing that) does deserve some kind of reward. Perhaps a compromise would be that multiple criticals only occur if 20s are rolled?

Ah, prophecy interpretation. I hope your DM occasionally throws in prophecies that are complete bollocks just to keep you on your toes!

Don't even talk to me about salad greens. I've started growing mesclun but I can't harvest it for another couple of weeks and in the meantime there is ever only enough for two days' worth of sandwiches and it is NOT FAIR. I haven't even looked at a lettuce for months.

[Also, when you're back in Wgtn? Try out the new salad bar in the BNZ Food Court because it is really very good and about the same price as buying lunch out in Wgtn generally is.]

I know, it's ridiculous eh. You're still coming over tomorrow night, right?

You mean Ka pai? It's not new, hon, it's about two years old and is indeed one of my top three BNZ foodcourt options. :P Of course I feel compelled to add avocado and bacon or chicken so it's a little less cheap, but you're right, it's excellent quality and reasonably priced.

Yep! I'll be 'round about seven, depending on when my lab finishes.

Hey, two years old is *practically* new by Food Court standards. :P

Woo! I feel like I haven't seen you for YONKS.

haha I would say the reverse, like foodcourt shops can have very short lifetimes!

I'm so glad summer hgas made itself known recently. The strolling scenery at Caltex has improved no end ;p

How come everyone else gets to play D&D except me :(

Aw, poor thing! I guess because you don't know any budding DMs? Or DMs willing to run a campaign because his fiancee wants to try playing in a friendly environment? ;)

Haha, perv! ;)

These are very true and valid reasons. It's not like I have time enough to see all my friends at the moment, let alone sit around playing games with more people!

Well yeah, there's gotta be some compensation for that job ;p

Shouldn't you be asleep??
