Jesus fucking christ.

The regalia people just emailed me to let me know that I don't need to pay for my regalia and am eligible for wearing the John Garrett gown, so the NZ Federation of Graduate Women will pay for my regalia. Oh, I think, that's pretty cool, but I didn't know anything about that, so I phone them up and I'm like "So... I didn't hear anything about that." And she's like "Oh, I assumed the department would write to you!" and then I'm like "Well... they didn't." Turns out it's this Scholarship, not a hell of a lot of money but something, for a 3rd year student continuing to Honours in English... at Canterbury. So, because I'm not at Canterbury, I'm not eligible.

Thing is?

If I had KNOWN about this, I would have STAYED. I was tossing up between Christchurch and Wellington, I went to Wellington because I might possibly be able to get a job, the application process for which ate up most of my summer, really fucked around with what I was doing, my financial situation, etc, and which I ultimately didn't get. But if in November - or, hell, in FEBRUARY - I'd gotten a letter which said "Yo, we'll give you some money to go to Christchurch" - I would have said fuck it and GONE. Which would have been a much fucking better decision for me in about ten different ways.

But now I'm NOT eligible, I DON'T get the money or the award which means I guess I can't even put it on my fucking CV. I just - argh! I'm so furious! How does this fucking happen? NOT FAIR.

Seriously! I think what I'm REALLY mad about is that if, yesterday, I'd found out that I got top in English last year - which is basically what this award means; it's not application-based, you don't apply, they just give it to you - I would have been thrilled; but since I've found out that I've lost an opportunity, it sucks! ugh.

That is total *fail*. It's not like they don't have ALL YOUR CONTACT DETAILS or anything. And it would have been totally rad to have you in Christchurch instead of just on brief visits. :(

I knooooow. I'm really annoyed, too, because it's taken something I should be thrilled about - it means I more or less got top in English last year, from what I can tell - and turned it into something I'm pissed off and miserable about.
