I needed [livejournal.com profile] gianp to offer me an opinion on this, so I had to have a place to stick it. :) Y'all can read it if you want; it's for meg. She's eighteen tomorrow.

dear meg

dear meg I remember you,
round-eyed owl  in the sunshine
over my shoulder

dear meg I remember you in the dark
& I couldn’t see you smile
or cry

dear meg do you remember
(oh so so so long ago ago ago)
finding shells on the beach

dear meg do you remember
waiting for your bus to come we
swapped songs and poetry

dear meg do you remember
casual cruelties because you will always come back to us
and this I know

:

dear meg I remember being short in hair, short in height
yours long and longer; do you remember how an elevenyearold
watches hair?

dear meg we complete each other’s sentences
I know you so well I hear you in my head--

we have had great fights in there that you will never know about;
dear meg I remember understanding & sometimes not;

dear meg I remember
I remember me and you.
