Also. I jsut heard from a friend who used "coffee plunger" in a fic and was sent a letter asking what a coffee plunger is. Apparently they don't use them in America.

o.O

Tell me! Americans! I see you! Is this true?????

If you mean a "french press" or "coffee press" I have one and a half of those. I broke the beaker for one a while back and hunted down a new one.

I use it. And bloody love it I do! Best cup of coffee _EVAR_.

Believe me, they are rare for use here. I got a discount on the thing because it was so dusty and never been looked at seriously.

At a lot of supermarkets you can get these overpriced "bodums" for like $30. They collect dust too.

Americans are more interested in having time to watch morning TV and stuff their faces with fattening goods than being studeous with heating their water to the right temperature for their particular sort of bean, grind to the right consistency, pour, stir and steep just for the right amount of time. Thusly they rely on these automatic horrors that suck all the beans' oils into the filter to yeild something remarkably similar in taste to muddied water. Add sugar, cream, and all is apparently good. Unless you're a man and can drink the stuff black.. *cough* Forgive my tone.

So are we. That why we, er, buy the grain already ground. :p

I'm not really a coffee person, so I confess I drink mine white. But I don't want to be a man anyway, so that's all good...

Well, I don't use one and don't know what it is, but this probably has something to do with the fact that I don't drink coffee and therefore don't really have much occasion to prepare it.

Oh, well, nor do I. My mother drinks it a lot. But, uh, most people would have them, even if they drink instant coffee most of the time.

...What's a coffee plunger?

o.O It's something you use to make coffee: it's a glass beaker with this clever two-part lid sothat you put coffee grains and boiling water in the beaker with the lid, leve for like five minutes and then you press down one part of the lid, which is like this little sieve, and it presses all the grains to the bottom so you can pour your coffee out the top.

Our one looks exactly like this:

In fact since that's an NZ site I suspect that that is our coffee plunger, or its brand-name twin.

Weird. We don't have any use for those. o.O

But you'd instantly fall in love with it. I'm telling you, this even beats Diner coffee. Forget Starbucks. Make coffee that has all it's flavorful oils and beautiful creama. Not some overheated burnt crud from a regular coffee maker. Faster too, frankly. And you're more inclined to clean out the beaker after each brew. This is a wonderful cup of coffee.
