I want to make myself a colourbar. Or icon. I realise this is fairly tragic but I had this great idea for one...

Anyway, I have to put in SYWTBAW, Tammy, TDiR, Earthsea... is there any other YA fantasy that I HAVE TO HAVE ON OMG? HP is not under consideration. :P

ETA: Okay, so I have SYWTBAW, Tammy, TDiR, Earthsea, Narnia, HDM and L'Engle, which is seven. Hmm, now I have to find appropriate coloured book covers. And of course get photoshop *eyeroll*

I don't know -- I'd include Narnia, but I can see where it might not be your thing. (Even though "Of course he's not safe. But he's good" echoes in my head when I read some of the related sentiments in the recent YW books.) I have the feeling there's something else I ought to be remembering, that I adore, but it's just out of reach. I'd say the Vor books, but A. I can't recall if you read Bujold and B. they aren't exactly YW or fantasy.

I LOVE Narnia. *crying* How could you say such a thing? I'm not that atheist; it's an absolute must! :D Thanks.

I just wasn't sure! It's not on your interests (not that I can talk... *eyes empty interest list*), and I know some people love it regardless of what they think of Lewis's theology and some people apparently throw it across the room. I couldn't remember if you'd ever posted about it.

On rather another note, since they are in your interests, did you want His Dark Materials in there? Or have you filled the slots now?

Well, I suppose I haven't. Future reference: yes, love 'em. :P It probably helps that I know he was atheist when he wrote them, but I usually don't mind too much of a Christian theme- and therefore HDM OMG YES, what a good point. :D

See, I knew the f-list would come up with the necessary...

Tammy=Tamora Pierce, yes?

Alan Garner? Wierdstone of Brisingamen through to Red Shift and The Owl Service

McCaffrey?

Richard Adams? (Shardik more than Watership Down)

Madeliene L'Engle?

Mmmm, I have read a lot of Garner but I don't know that he's a staple, per se; McCaffrey is not really a YA writer; I've not read much Adams, so no ;); and L'Engle's a good one, thanks. :D

Ya think McCaffrey's an adult writer????? Pshaw, good woman, pshaw!

Still, I see your point ;-)

Oooh, read Shardik. Seriously.

Yes, actually. She does not write for or about teenagers and her books are not widely read teensage fantasy- well, they are widely read by teenagers, but most of them i would not classify as fantasy and the rest are not for teenagers nor do they offer anything specifically different for teenagers, which I think the other ones do.

If you're talking complexity, well, that's different again.

I'd dispute that the dragonsinger series could be anything but teenage fantasy, myself

Oh, well, its my opinion not yours, obviously. :)

I think they have elements. But no. But I mean, in some ways you're sort of too old for teenage fantasy, kinda... it sorta really kicked off a bit later. There's child fantasy, and adult fantasy, but I think teen fantasy is a very specific genre, relatively recent- like last 20 year- genre. Earthsea might not even fit, but I would leave it in 'cause it's a staple. I probably should have the Hobbit, that said. *shrug*

Madeline L'Engle rocks!!! What books of hers have you read? I love a Wrinkle in Time!

And Narnia rocks also.

She is good, isn't she? I've read all of the Wrinkle-verse and one or two stand-alones, but none of the Vicki Austin ones because I could never find the first one and that, you know, bothers me. ;)
