Apr. 25th, 2005 04:39 pmI WANT PHOTOSHOP RIGHT NOW.
*crying* isn't it even remotely possible that someone at this Hall needs PSP for a legitimate purpose? Waaaaah.
I can't even d/l trial versions because you're not allowed to load new programs on- this is also why I'm using this really hideous crappy web-based version of MSN.
Mutter, mutter, grumble, mutter.

Date: 2005-04-25 09:24 pm (UTC)I can't afford one, also, I hate macs. *crying* Unfortunately people keep pressuring me to get one and
1. I can't really afford it (or a computer at all, for that matter, although I'm really starting to have problems with public ones)
2. I can't take the pressure omg and some of the arguments for Macs are very confusing.
Except.. they're slow! and clunky! And I can't use them. And I hate their interface, it's just uncomfortable for me.
Le sigh. Anyway. Time to call the IT help desk... *sigh*

Date: 2005-04-26 06:41 am (UTC)Trademe usually has decent comps for very cheap. Especialy as I'm currently running Photoshop on a 450mhz pile o' crap from the 90s, so anything looks good to me.

Date: 2005-04-26 09:03 am (UTC)I think I'd get one new, though. I don't trust old and second hand computers because you don't know what's on them- laptops, sure, but not computers (well, it depends on the age, really.) Also new would last longer, and the difference in price is not comparatively huge (I think.)

Date: 2005-04-26 07:09 am (UTC)I'm in love.
It. Just. Works.
Cost me $1300 including an iSight (camera) but no screen - it plugs into a KVM switch with my Windoze PC and uses the same screen, keyboard and mouse.
You can skin the interface and tweak the hell out of it so that it "looks" like a PC - it won't care.
It ain't slow (even with only 256MB RAM and I'm not finding it at all clunky. Every so often I go WTF is that, but I work it out pretty quickly.
On the other hand, if you want to stick with Windows, see my old comment (before you left Welly in January) about a RAM drive. I upgraded to a 256MB one, because I lost the old one, and got a copy of Firefox running off it, as well as the GIMP and a skin for the GIMP called GIMPshop</> that makes it run like PhotoShop. Very cool. GIMP and GIMPshop are free, but the thumb drive will set you back less than $200 and you'll have your bookmarks to carry around with you. All you need is a USB port and you're away.

Date: 2005-04-26 09:01 am (UTC)See, the thing is, I know it's a deep personality flaw and everything. Macs are less vulnerable to disease and they're just so much prettier and they don't freeze (as much) and also, bill gates is evil evil evil.
But.
I hate them. It's just... I don't know, it's probably a familiarity thing but I know my way around PCs, they're fast and convenient and everything works on them and even though they're ugly they're comforting, whereas macs tend to freak me out because they're so... dunno, alien or something. Windows are human (and probably also the Antichrist).
Should I ever get my own computer, though, I will almost certainly run GIMP on it because
-cheaper than Photoshop (*laughs horrifiedly*)
-Bill Gates is Evil
-um. something.
