Hi there folks,

The Black Caps, which are the New Zealand cricket team, are planning a tour to Zimbabwe later this year. If any of you feel you can, go to http://www.saynotozimtour.com/index.asp to sign a petition to stop them touring. this might remind you about the Springbok tours of 1981.

Dont sign it. Thats stink man. They dont have to go if they dont want to, how would you feel if you were Zimbabwein (uh sp?) and people from this country didn't want you to come. Thats stupid.

Zimbabwean.

And I think the question is, how would you feel if you were Zimbabwean, and you were living in a country where human rights abuses are frequently being perpetuated if not by the Gvt than condoned by it, lead by Robert Mugabe who was elected in a corrupt poll (according to the EU and UN)... I think you should talk to Mum and Dad about it, and Rewi, because I am not as informed about this as I should be.

But I do know a bit about the 1981 tour- in 1981 the Springboks were going to tour New Zealand. However there was a lot of protest about this because at the time, South Africa was under apartheid rule. Eventually the Prime Minister intervened and prevented them from coming because allowing them to tour New Zealand was seen to be tacit support of the regime. Similarly, the Black Caps touring Zimbabwe is, or appears to be, a tacit support of a regime that New Zealanders- I hope- widely condemn.

LOL, yeah, and I sort of agree with you, if we were talking about the same thing.

You're talking about worrying whether the Black Caps might get hurt; obviously, I don't want them injured or anything, but that's not my concern. My concern is the other people in Zimbabwe, and the support for a regime that I don't think we should be condoning, or appearing to condone, as a country.

I actually dont care if they get hurt or not frankly, if thay go that is, if they don't then I'll set aside my intence dislike of cricket and say good job.

*wry* Well, every life is important. Even George Bush's. Comparatively, Daniel Vettori is like a saint, so yeah, him dying would be uncool. :P It also wouldn't be his fault- they're all under contract and they need their jobs. it's up to the cricketing committee or association or whatever. And they won't because they don't want to pay the fine to the ICA. :-/

yea but you see, from my point of view they should just refuse to pay the fin as its really the ICC thats being bad by insisting they go. And if they get kicked out, It'l just mean more time and money for things other than cricket.

Yeah, but this is the New Zealand Cricketing authority or whatever, I think cricketing is kind of the point!!!!!! :P Also, yeah, but they want to be able to play against other nations too which without the approval of the ICC they probably won't be able to do unless there's support.

I agree with you. But. :P
