I forgot to mention this earlier, but I totally owe thinkaholic my soul: he's set his computer up somehow so I can access his computer- which means a real version of MSN, and PHOTOSHOP YES, and media player, omg music, and PHOTOSHOP, and omg love. <33333333 So, if I have promised anyone icons/anyone suddenly wants an icon of my craptasticality, comment here to remind me/specify. Although Erin, I am totally working on Moulin Rouge for you. :D

Every time you do an action- draw a line, or write, or paste a picture, or whatever- that creates a new layer on top of the old one. So if you have one picture and want a background picture, paste the picture you want as the background picture over the top of the original, then go Layer -> Arrange -> Send to Back.

If you just want to create a new layer, transparent or whatever- there are complicated uses for layers that I don't really understand- go layer -> New Layer. Or, if you want your background to be just one bland colour, go Layer -> New Fill Layer, and then go Layer -> Arrange -> Send to back.

You should try to find some icon-making tutorials somewhere- I'm not really very good, in fact I'm sort of crap.
