Back to university. Hooray for summer terms! Also, the normal hideousness of my return was nicely alleviated by getting two marks back and having them both be A+ which was, frankly, an ego boost I really really needed this morning, so that's nice. *brags a little* For that English essay (about which he said some extremely flattering things but also some really helpful ones; the amount of fb I get from the English dept never ceases to amaze me) and for a Linguistics test (which is sort of laughable because one of the questions was on the difficulties of translating the conditional, that's this: -> and, well, at the end of this year I'm going to have 62 credits in logic. I could talk for three pages about the difficulties of translating the conditional.)
Five things memes!
Five pieces of YW fanon I'm fond of
This was difficult! I was talking to someone, I think
senri, the other day about how YW is very much a complete text and in the same way that it makes certain types of fanfiction very difficult to write I think it can also be counterproductive in terms of fanon. But!
1. The Copernicus crater is the favoured make-out spot of the Callahan sisters.
2. Not precisely fanon, but: Tom and Carl are married like a very married thing (homosexuality optional!)
3. Carmela plans on running, or is currently running, an intergalactic chocolate smuggling business. That, or a ambassador for Earth.
4. Kit's family is reasonably intensely Catholic. I don't know why I'm fond of this, and it certainly has canonical support, and I don't know that I've seen it around enough to consider it solid fanon, but it's fanon for *me*.
5. Eggbeaters are mystically significant!
1. "Go ahead, panic! Do it now and avoid the June rush! Fear death by water!" (I just thing this is so funny, god knows why.)
2. "Human lives aren't much like the Dow Jones Average"; impressions of newscasters; Gilbert and Sullivan.
3. "Do what the Knight tells you."
4. Cannibalism and the ability to turn a peaceful morning in the Swale-Romeo household into a disaster of operatic proportions. Also, the ability to fly out of reach of Carl's threatening fist!
5. The way she fit herself into the little body and the hollow bones and filled it all the way up; the way she gave no quarter; the way she used her beak like a flaming sword (even if Tom's ear wasn't precisely the shadowy enemy she was used to.)
