Okay, why did EVERYONE ON MY FLIST just get their period? This is truly bizarre. (I am not joking, like five people in the last 12 hours have posted about Aunt Flo coming to visit (worst period euphemism ever, btw, share your least favourites in the comments!). Given my personal ratio of number of periods posted about : number of periods had is about equal to 1:20, perhaps even smaller, and that my reading flist is 141 people, probably... ok, I was going to say probably 75% of whom are women, but realistically I can name three guys on my flist right now. Assuming there are slightly more than that (and some names are coming back to me now), 20x5 = 100 and therefore 100/120 women on my flist have their period right now. QED!)

HAPPY MEME

10:58 pm: I'm starting the Happy Meme today because in eight days it'll be christmas and I'm REALLY hoping it'll cheer me up.

HAPPY THING DAY #1: in approximately 2 minutes I get to start blocking my Swallowtail shawl. SO. EXCITED. I'm going to hold off on hitting post on this one, don't go away!

11:59 pm: HA-HA, done. Cannot wait to take the pins out of this baby. pics under the cut, lulz )

Here are my thoughts about this knit: It was the right level for me, although I'm tempted to say that after Adamas probably the budding lace section was a bit easy. It's a really good pattern, which is why everyone and her mama has made one; my only complaint is that it is kind of tough to upsize, but there are plenty of upsizable shawls out there if that's what you're after.

Lily of the Valley was difficult in two aspects: 1. The nupps, but they're basically a technique thing and I picked it up quickly; and 2. row 13 - if you see in that detail photo, there are two sets of bobbles? unfortunately the bobbles are kind of out of focus, but never mind. Getting from the first set of bobbles to the second set I found extremely challenging! Plus, I had one or two stitch count issues in the border section directly after lily of the valley. However, it looks OK, so who cares!

Also, I knit the large size in fingering-weight (4ply) merino on 4.25mm circular needle with a very short cable. It was way too short, which I don't recommend but it's nice to know it's possible to knit a shawl this large on that.
