10:58 pm: I'm starting the Happy Meme today because in eight days it'll be christmas and I'm REALLY hoping it'll cheer me up.

HAPPY THING DAY #1: in approximately 2 minutes I get to start blocking my Swallowtail shawl. SO. EXCITED. I'm going to hold off on hitting post on this one, don't go away!

11:59 pm: HA-HA, done. Cannot wait to take the pins out of this baby.

Unblocked (dimensions around 160 x 60, 70 cm):

Blocked (dimensions: 200 cm x 100 cm, or thereabouts):

Lily of the valley border detail (nupps are my bitch, haha!):

Here are my thoughts about this knit: It was the right level for me, although I'm tempted to say that after Adamas probably the budding lace section was a bit easy. It's a really good pattern, which is why everyone and her mama has made one; my only complaint is that it is kind of tough to upsize, but there are plenty of upsizable shawls out there if that's what you're after.

Lily of the Valley was difficult in two aspects: 1. The nupps, but they're basically a technique thing and I picked it up quickly; and 2. row 13 - if you see in that detail photo, there are two sets of bobbles? unfortunately the bobbles are kind of out of focus, but never mind. Getting from the first set of bobbles to the second set I found extremely challenging! Plus, I had one or two stitch count issues in the border section directly after lily of the valley. However, it looks OK, so who cares!

Also, I knit the large size in fingering-weight (4ply) merino on 4.25mm circular needle with a very short cable. It was way too short, which I don't recommend but it's nice to know it's possible to knit a shawl this large on that.

HOLY CRAP. When did you start knitting again? O.0

Lace knitting still terrifies that crap out of me, so well done. It's beautiful.

I haven't not been knitting, I've just been too lazy to post about it! ;) Hey, I keep meaning to come to the southern cross for knit night on mondays, are you going next week?

Don't be scared of lace! I'm addicted. It's so gorgeous!

That's amazing! Is it going to be a gift for some lucky duck or is it just for kicks? Either way, color me impressed. People who make lace are like astrophysicists, in my head: the end result is amazingly cool, but I have nbo idea how it works and couldn't follow the thought process if I tried.

It's for me - no way do I spend this much time on something and give it to someone else! ;) I needed a TV-watching wrap and this seemed like the appropriate project, so.

This isn't really "true" lace, it's knitted lace (and way more forgiving stuff than some people knit - it's 4ply/fingering weight, but it's common for people to knit lace in cobweb or gossamer, a quarter thickness of this!) and I have to say, it looks fabulous but it's really not that difficult. Do you knit? If you can knit, you could do this, really.

*laughs* I can't. It's a lovely and wonderful art, but it's not for me. Friends and family have tried to teach me, but with every attempt I wound up with ever-more-creative foul-ups. Weaving, however, fascinates me, and I'd love to try it, but looms are expensive and bulky. Maybe when I grow up.
