I got a Jury Summons in the mail today!

Okay, now, I know that when I am old and jaded I will complain about time and trouble and boredom and so on. But this is the first time I have been summonsed and I'm kind of excited! And I want to do it, too, because, you know, civil duty and stuff. And I want to know what it'd be like. Even though I also know the answer to that question is probably "boring and mundane."

However, it would be really, really easy for me to be excused and I think I probably should... because it's the week just before exams. I have at least two assessments due in that period and I have an exam on the monday and another one on the Tuesday. So I really kind of don't have the time. So I should ask to be excused... but I want to do it!

So, you know, I'm kind of torn. :-/

So many people I know have got jury duty in the last six months. I, like you, have always liked the idea, even though I, also like you, know it's going to be more likely to be about deciding who owns a fence than anything glamorous or even intellectually interesting. I urge you to go for it. I'm sure you can get an extension to your assignments.

As an aside, I really enjoyed telling off my frumpily stupidly conservatively grouchy fifty five year old ex boss, when she got out of jury duty because she had already booked a holiday in Australia, that "this is the problem today, people would rather take a holiday than do their duty to society!" It was hilarious.
