I got a Jury Summons in the mail today!

Okay, now, I know that when I am old and jaded I will complain about time and trouble and boredom and so on. But this is the first time I have been summonsed and I'm kind of excited! And I want to do it, too, because, you know, civil duty and stuff. And I want to know what it'd be like. Even though I also know the answer to that question is probably "boring and mundane."

However, it would be really, really easy for me to be excused and I think I probably should... because it's the week just before exams. I have at least two assessments due in that period and I have an exam on the monday and another one on the Tuesday. So I really kind of don't have the time. So I should ask to be excused... but I want to do it!

So, you know, I'm kind of torn. :-/

If I may.... may I suggest that you check on the possibility of getting extensions if you need them (as amarynth suggested) and then make a decision? I don't know for sure if this works the same way in NZ, but if it's possible for a case to drag on for an unpredictable period of time... well, they do need people, sure, but I seriously doubt they would want a long-running trial to cause you to fail courses.

Not that I'm trying to be a wet blanket, mind. I applaud your interest and responsibility; I've no doubt that you will have another opportunity, preferably with better timing, and it's not as if you'd be shirking shirking -- just helping on one occasion instead of another.
