labellementeuseGod, I have A+ friends. I sent out an SOS recently to my best friend saying, basically: help, I'm watching Stargate: SG1 and the quality is uneven! Send episode and season recs! I like Sam, Jack, Daniel and Vala! And she wrote me back with, like, her favourites, and specific character recs, and all that jazz from all ten freakin' seasons of SG1. ♥ I mean, "rec me!" is one thing for a two- or even a five-season show, but ten? Yeah.
So, uh, speaking of: rec me your favourite SG1 episode. I'm kind of floating through the seasons right now picking ones I'm recced and ones I recognise references to in fic, but I just don't have the marathoning urge for this show - which is v weird for me, because normally I am the person who sits down with DVDs of a show, or hooks themselves up with an ep dl community, and blasts my way through the show in. sixth_light, I did Angel by myself watching three or four episodes a night and that took me most of a summer, I did Gilmore Girls... really embarassingly fast, like, a season a week, maybe more quickly. And that's from start to finish, you know, premiere to finale. And I have been known to go a little overboard, like, I think with Supernatural, I watched the whole first season in about two days and didn't sleep much. So it's weird for me to come to an S7 episode and to be like, OK, I recognise Jonas, and I'm way spoiled for Daniel's Ascension/Descension (er, should I cut that? Naw.), and I know a bit about the Asgard from SGA, but who's the dude in the black cloak? And who's Baal? And who the heck are the Tauri, or Tau'ri, or whatever?
I did eventually figure this last bit out, and may I just say: that's totally non-intuitive, who picked that?
Anyway, the point is, there is no point but the gazing at the navel. SG1! Yes!

* Season Four: Window of Opportunity - Jack and Teal'c get caught in a time loop. Shades of Groundhog Day, and some hilarious moments.
* Season Eight Finale: Moebius pt1&2. More time related humour...

Season 3: New Ground, Legacy is very good too, but you need to watch Holiday first - story follows on)
Season 4: The First Ones, Absolute Power,
Season 5: Beast of Burden (bit of a follow on from The First Ones), Wormhole Xtreme, Meridian (very sad, I didn't want to watch it, but a good ep none the less)
Season 6: I kinda raced through these, cos I wanted to get to season 7 really quickly :p
Season 7: Fallen, Lifeboat, Evolution (both parts), Heroes (both parts, also a sad pair, but well done)
Season 8: Affinity, Prometheus Unbound,
Hmm... I'd say they're all my favourites. But I would highly recommend watching them from start to finish. That way you can get all the jokes... but yeah. Tau'ri are essentially people from Earth. Ba'al is a Gou'ald who juat won't die :p As for guy in the black cloak... which ep?

Season 1: The Torment of Tantalus (Paul McGillion!!), Solitudes, Tin Man
Season 2: In The Line of Duty, Message In A Bottle, The Fifth Race.
Season 3: Point Of View, Foothold, Urgo, A Hundred Days.
Season 4: Divide And Conquer, Window Of Opportunity, 2010, Absolute Power, Entity.
Season 5: Ascension, Rite Of Passage, The Tomb, 48 Hours (McKay!), Meridian.
Season 6: Descent, Abyss (Oh, how I love this ep), The Other Guys, Paradise Lost, Metamorphosis.
Season 7: Fragile Balance, Grace, Heroes Pts 1 & 2 (Of course, these are the only eps I've seen of S7).

Things you should know about her: we share a tendency to think the melodramatic is funny rather than dramatic, and she likes science and the more Sf-y, speculative eps for the brain workout (the workout the show itself doesn't normally give you, but hey.) So that colours her taste.
okay, if you like Vala, just watch all the episodes from when she appears... season 8 sometime, I think? might be nine.
good sam, jack and daniel eps are harder to identify, as it's normally brief flashes among the otherwise slightly boring dross (I did tell you they're best watched when ill and slightly spaced, right?)
I don't know how far you've watched but assuming you've seen none, watch:
1st season:
Broca divide - for sam and jack
Hathor - because it's funny
solitudes - sam and jack again; sam being moderately awesome
... the rest of season one from then on, cos I'm looking at an episode guide and remember they're kinda cool ... though if you get sick of stuff being blown up you might want to skip the last couple (I think I slept through some bits)
2nd season:
Gamekeeper - for Daniel, poor boy.
A Matter of time - don't really know why I like this one, though Carter is kinda cool
Holiday - because it made me laugh, and the acting's not entirely bad.
1968 - this one is a must, must, must see - one of my favourites (mostly cos the concept is awesome... and teal'c dressed as a hippy)
3rd season:
Seth - again, largely for amusement factor
Legacy - depressing and Daniel whumping; but you did say you wanted episodes on him
Learning Curve - for the sci-fi, interesting moral implication and cute kids
point of view (and earlier There but for the Grace of God) - for AU in cannon
Urgo - who doesn't want voices in their head?!
A Hundred Days - actually, not really, but it gets referred to a lot in Fandom, so you might want to watch it anyway.
Shades of Grey - spies!
Crystal Skull - for more Daniel backstory
4th season:
Upgrades - one of my favourites, most definitely
Divide and conquer - only if you feel like Sam Jack shipping
Window of opportunity -as above, though this one is also cool for the golf.
Beneath the surface - i just like this one, no good reason.
Prodigy - Carter being cool. Another favourite of mine
Entity- Carter becomes a computer!
...actually, season 4 is a pretty good season, and most of the others are highly watchable also.
5th season:
The fifth man - I like ones that try to confuse you, though really on the first bit of this is cool
Red sky- remember the ending was supposed to be different, and then it's neat.
proving ground - lots of fun, another one of my favourites
48 hours - purely to see Rodney act like an idiot
Median - for Daniel story
6th season:
Nightwalkers - it's the coats, and maybe the glasses too.
Paradise lost - a Jack episode
forsaken - not bad, and the set-up for better things to come.
7th season:
Fallen- Daniel comes back! (actually, on reflection, you don't really need to watch it, cos that's all you need to know)
Fragile Balance - so you understand my favourite fic
Revisions - I just like this one... and it's kinda creepy
Space Race - Carter having fun
Death Knell - Carter being cool
Heroes one & two - sad and sappy
Elizabeth appears in the last few episodes, and there's lots of politics, if you like that kind of thing.
8th season:
New Order 1 & 2 - slightly mindbending
Icon - I think this is a classic Daniel one, but can't remember for sure
Prometheus Unbound - again, I think this one may be good
Threads and Moebius parts one and two - don't worry, I'm pretty sure they're not actually meant to make sense
ninth season - Cameron appears. Just watch everything from here, pretty much. It makes a nice plot arch.
