OH GOD OH GOD ONE OF THE ONES I THOUGHT WAS DEAD ISN'T PLEASE LITTLE MICE FORGIVE ME AND DIE ALREADY I WILL NEVER EVER EVER USE THESE TRAPS AGAIN I SWEAR.
You can't get them off the traps. I could pick the trap up and throw it in the bin still wriggling but a) I'm not sure if that's not crueler and b) I can't, I can't, I cannot deal. I'm OK with killing them and I'm not scared of mice in the normal running-around way but I cannot DEAL with the knowledge that they're scared and sitting there and struggling and unhappy and scared, and at least I can put my headphones on and pretend - it's total hypocrisy of the worst kind. :-/
That sucks. My first (and only) experience with a mouse-trap seemed pretty humane. Despite the fact it snapped right onto his poor snout. I wasn't home when it happened, so I don't know if there was a struggle. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't remember where I was! Anyway, perhaps tofu will now find a home in your cold storage? :-)
Now that the bulk of them are gone, you're probably ok to just use a single capture trap which would mean you could release them some where far far away and feel much happier about the whole process (it only really works if you have few mice).
