Darling Violetta came on my ipod this afternoon so I had to watch some Angel when I got home. First season, partly because it's all I have but partly because I, uh, really like it - according to [livejournal.com profile] keymash this means I have no taste and discrimination as far as Angel seasons go, but whatever. I mean, I'll be the first to admit that David Boreanaz has, um, really improved since then, but I don't know, there's just something about it that I really love, the dynamic or something - Glenn Quinn was a real loss. So I watched "City of" (because "Hey, you're a vampire!" Comedy gold!) and I'm watching "In the Dark" (because Spike's monologue is just. ♥ I am not a Spike fan, but really. Oh, Jossverse, u r my favrit. Plus, Oz!) Anyway, this:

DOYLE: C'mon, I've got something that'll boost your spirits. Whyn'cha put [The Gem of Amarr] on, and I'll stake ya!
ANGEL: Maybe later.
DOYLE: What are you, crazy?
ANGEL: I said, maybe later.

This = the essential difference between SGA and Angel, y/n?

OK, I really enjoyed parts of this episode - I was particularly keen on the chat Dean and Demon Girl were having, and Bobby's scenes; and bits of it were classic SPN. But, ugh, more and more this season I feel like this show is allll about the male gaze - The Kids are Alright was OK, but every other episode I feel like all the women are being dressed and presented just... it's really grossing me out and making me feel uncomfortable. Some caps of the show might as well be from FHM. I just - I mean, they've always had unreasonably beautiful women but it didn't used to be like this, did it? Where are the Haleys and the Avas and the Sarahs and the Jos and the Megs and the Laylas and the... what's her name, Ladycop from the Benders? Where are these women? They were beautiful but they were also characters, not set-dressing. Also, I am progressively disliking more and more the language the show uses to describe women. "Bitch" is funny enough once or twice, but every time? Skank? Etc. :-/ Show, I love you but you're driving me away.

...pretty much.

(You still haven't read the vamp!Rodney fic, have you? Because it is conclusively proved within that Shep actually = Buffy. Seriously.)
