I'm just so... conflicted, I guess? about this episode. There were some awesome things, which I suspect everyone will have gone into (boys! Looking up to Dean! Caring about each other! Bela!) and there were some... not so awesome things. I'm not even thinking about the race issue, here, since all Supernatural's race issues can be summed up as "racism? what racism?" and I'm not even slightly equipped to deal with that. But, OK, some things.

I kind of thought Harmony Lucy (seriously, they got Mercedes McNab and that's all they did with her? Way to waste a great guest star, kids) had the same problem as whosoever in Heart. The resolution just was not convincing at all, especially because, well, Harmony! Just like in Heart I wasn't prepared to accept that the only way to resolve the werewolf problem is to shoot her, I don't think the only way to resolve this was to kill Lucy. And, in fact, while I gave them a pass in Heart because it was a big dramatic character moment and involved crying, in this one they weren't using her death at all - I genuinely do not think they could be bothered writing a scene with a more plausible solution. Which is doubly bad, because they already covered the exact same ground with the exact same monster waaaaay back in Bloodlust. What, they forgot about Tara already? LAME. I think Sam's willingness to kill Gordon and people who get in his way would be much better underscored by the idea that Sam is still principled enough to make an effort for people who actually aren't, you know, out to get him. It would make him scarier. Ugh, oh well.

I had more problems but I'm watching the netball and seriously, HELD BALL? whaaaaaaat the. argh!

I was actually thinking they addressed the problem better here than in Heart. I bought that they couldn't just let her go. (Also, Lucy- Dracula shout out maybe?). They had no plausible way to keep her from breaking out and killing more people over the long term, no matter how much she pleaded that she wanted it to stop. I doubt that they had Lenore or any other vampire on speed dial and I imagine (fanwanking here) that even with Lenore would've killed people while getting her bloodlust under control.

I'm thinking that when it came down to imagined future scenarios, the number of humans she could kill took precedent over her life. But was it a cold-blooded ruthless, and possibly wrong-headed hunter's solution? Hell yes.

Before I googled it, I had no idea what netball was-- but I do now. Sounds like an interesting game. :)
