Nov. 8th, 2008 04:25 pm*sigh* Well, I voted. Actually, I special-voted (ten minutes instead of two) because I was doorknocking to get out the vote in Christchurch Central with a couple of my cohorts and we passed a polling place and we thought, why not? On the downside, this means my vote won't be counted for... um... ages. This is kinda bad because I would like final election results ASAP. I will be drinking tonight!
non-Kiwis should check out this Diary of a New Zealand Voter from I/S, which I guess was written for Daily KOS but you should read it there and then check out the rest of No Right Turn because it rocks.

Date: 2008-11-08 04:41 am (UTC)I feel totally lame for not doing anything to help out today, but the only comms I got was a text from Cameron around midnight last night about doing some work in Selwyn/Waimak starting super early in the morning. By this point I had already gotten way too drunk to even think about getting up in time for something like that. If I'd known that you guys were doing doorknocking in town though I would've been totally keen for that.
No matter, hopefully you managed to drag a few people off their couches to the polling booths. You coming to the shindig at Harriet's tonight?

Date: 2008-11-08 11:38 am (UTC)I decided I actually feel really good about my doorknocking/phoning efforts to get out the vote, because we won in the electorates I volunteered in, but by seriously narrow margins - 880 votes for Brendon, even less than that for Clayton.

Date: 2008-11-08 02:04 pm (UTC)I ended up walking all the way home from Harriet's, which while taking about 2 hours was rather therapeutic. I'm taking consolation in the fact that we get to spend the next three years stickin' it to the man.
