[personal profile] china_shop keeps spamming her flist with White Collar screencaps, which is pretty fabulous, and I ended up making some icons out of her caps. Thank you China!

icon rules of engagement: I really like it when people comment to let me know they're taking, credit is also appreciated but is not necessary.

A couple of episodes of all the new shows I'm watching have aired, I thought I'd talk about them a little bit. What I say will be, IMO, basically non-spoilery, but I know I have some really spoilerphobic people on my flist so I'll be cutting anyway. Which reminds me: I am basically chill about spoilers unless they're, like, Sirius dies at the end of OotP, so it's really hard for me to tell what's going to ruin someone's enjoyment. However, my aim is to NOT do that, so if I spoil you, please let me know and I'll do my best to modify my behaviour.

So, my enjoyment of Hellcats is somewhat marred by the fact that they never say each others' names. Consequently as far as I'm concerned, these are the characters on the show: Ashley Tisdale, Main Girl, Blonde Dude, Hot Cheerleader Dude, Hot Cheerleader Girl Who Might Be A Lesbian, Hot Cheerleader Antagonist, Coach, Principal Wood, Asshole, Drunk Mom, Ice Mom. Also, last episode, Geeky Wannabe Lawyer and Superiority Complex Lawyer. This makes it hard for me to talk about the show with others, although I can usually recognise names when I hear them.

I'm hoping Hellcats will actually pick up, since I've unfortunately found it a bit lacklustre. However, I love the cheerleading and dance bits, I like Ashley Tisdale, Hot Base Girl Who Might Be A Lesbian, and Hot Cheerleader Antagonist, I think Geeky Wannabe Lawyer might be fun ... so I'm going to keep sticking it out, at least for awhile. However, it'll need to pick up its quotient of lesbianism and interesting storylines (the mom scare complex: not interesting. Ashley Tisdale's family: sort of interesting. Lawyer storyline: pretty interesting) to keep my attention. Also, I would like fewer moms, thanks.

I'm going to talk about Nikita outside a cut because I really want people to watch this show. I nearly didn't start watching this show, and I know why: all the promos I saw made it look like this kind of grim show that was about one woman going it alone and being grim and sad and having an ambiguous morality, and she would be surrounded by men with even more ambiguous moralities, and it would be harsh and cruel and sad. And I thought to myself: ugh.

However, that is not what the show is about at all. Nikita isn't going it alone; she does interact with other women all the time, and one in particular; and also, Nikita is funny and chill and does not mangst all over the place (although if any character was entitled, it would be her). Maggie Q has this amazing, warm, expressive face and this show is just a lot more obviously influenced by shows like Dark Angel than I thought it would be. So y'all: I really really recommend that you watch this show. 1x03 would be a perfect pimping episode, and dammit, I just realised that if I'd started watching this show when the pilot aired I'd have been able to pimp it at [livejournal.com profile] get__together. Blast.

My point here: watch this show. Watch it watch it watch it.

So, this is going to become the next big slash fandom, right? Right? Guys? Hello?

IDK, I feel like ten or twenty years ago this show would have been a slash fandom gimme. It's a cop show, the leads have fabulous chemistry and a perfect vibe, one's divorced and the other one's a mangsty former Marine. On the other hand, what everyone should lead with in talking about this show is the fact that Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim are in it, both being their seriously fine (... I mean, ~acting wise, of course) selves.

My actual feelings about the show: I always find it awkward when I'm watching a show that tries to pitch the Patriot Act as a good idea (NCIS, I'm lookin' at you.) On the other hand, at least in 1x02 Danny is like, that shit does not fly, you crazy mofo! And the scenes in the car are frigging amazing.

I think it's... ironic. awkward. Something? that a) Chin Ho and Kono have to be related (although their relationship is defs adorable); b) that both Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim are Korean and yet c) they're apparently playing Japanese-Hawai'ian characters. IDK what to think about that really except I found that whole thing with the origami crane weird because of that.

I have nothing to say about Undercovers because only the pilot has aired, except to say that it was as cute and funny as I was expecting and I really enjoyed it.

I practically never start watching a show until it's run about a season and people in fandom are talking about it a lot, because that's when I start to be curious, haha. Or if it's broadcast here on the government funded channels, because then I can watch it without commercials (which I'm going to do with Sherlock - it's going to be broadcast here around Christmas). Downloading just takes up so much space on my harddrives.

I've seen people talk a lot about White Collar, but I still have no idea what it's about, so I'm waiting for that to manifest ~organically (my method for choosing shows is weird, I know) before deciding.

Generally I prefer genre shows, but Nikita is now on my "Will keep eye out for more info" list. I'm like you when it comes to spoilers, and I like to know what the show is about before I start watching, so I sort of just amass information until my curiosity reaches critical mass, so to speak.

What's "a monthly cap" on your internet? You can only download a certain amount every month?

I've got the 100mbit connection that's becoming (or already has become?) standard here, so downloading is very easy for me. I like watching several episodes in a row of something, it makes me really get into it; especially anime, since the episodes are so short.

I'm not in fandom for most shows I like, actually. It would take too much time, besides that I don't always feel the urge. Supernatural is sort of an exception for me too, heh. I don't watch shows for fandom alone (but I don't think it's wrong doing so at all - it's just that the shows I love eat up all free time as it is!).

I think it's when my love for a show reaches the point when I really really want to see what other fans think about it that I join fandom. And when I completely fall for one (or several) of the characters, of course.^^

Hm, White Collar sounds a bit like The Mentalist, only that con man wasn't in prison. But I love that show, so I'll probably check out White Collar too, then. I mean, now that I know the premise, haha.
