What a lovely piece! I read my first book of hers in grade six and have just converted that edition's cover into an icon in commemoration. It's remarkable how spooky I found it at the time. What Terry Pratchette is to many people's formative adolescent experience, Diana Wynne Jones was to mine.
Witch Week was the first book I read as well! I was just looking at the chronology on Wikipedia and was amazed to see that it had been written in 1982. I read it in 1995 -- and many times thereafter -- and it really it felt timeless, not dated.
