Gratuitous poetry post, mark two.
Apr. 11th, 2004 10:52 amThis one is by Clive Barker, and it's the poem on the cover of Abarat,, which I'd thouroughly recommend; I don't think it has a title, the site I found it on had it as "Preface to Abarat."
I dreamed a limitless book,
A book unbound,
Its leaves scattered in fantastic abundance.
On every line there was a new horizon drawn,
New heavens supposed;
New states, new souls.
On of those souls,
Dozing through some imagined afternoon,
Dreamed these words.
And needing a hand to set them down,
Made mine.
I really like this one... not sure why. It just.. mmm. I don't know, it reads like a library. Or a book shop. Or like my bookshelves above the bunk, which I've stuffed with everythign I've read at least twice. (And I jsut redid them and have them all luvverly, too...)

Date: 2004-04-10 05:13 pm (UTC)*guesses what PK's guesses woudl be* Uhm... Candy/Carrion (most obvious), Candy/Malingo, Candy/uhm, John Mischief??? and if you've eked out a fourth I'm mildly amazed, because I can't. Oh, Candy/assasin guy? forgotten the name? (They're all Candy ships because, well, ther's no-one else to ship- is there?)
Mmm, I like it a lot, but the idea of fic in it is mildly daunting, because it's one big world and it's not acessible the way, say, YW and HP are, through points of contact. It's very alien.

Date: 2004-04-11 10:08 am (UTC)I'm not stuck on any of them, myself, really. ;) Though if she doesn't stay friends with Malingo for any reason (death, falling out...) I shall be distressed. Wah. Curious about Finny, though.
Carrion (has anybody in his own universe called him Chris, and if so, have they survived, I wonder?) needs a large supplemental dose of common sense before he should be allowed to get involved with anyone. The sadism could possibly be gotten around -- either by a partner who did like it or his apparently sincere intention to drop it if they didn't -- but actually expecting the grandmother who sewed his mouth shut for using the word "love" to do something beneficial about his appearance for his bride's sake? Not working here.

Date: 2004-04-11 09:14 pm (UTC)Oh, I'm sure we'll see him round.... I just hadn't connected him to Candy.
Carrion... meh. I'm going half and half on him. I'm not his greatest fan, put it like that.... on the other hand, there's something to be said for the charmingly nasty.

Date: 2004-04-12 06:25 am (UTC)I ended up laughing over his sitting around in odd places whispering "Candy" over and over, though. The pathos is all very nice, and then I get this image of his subjects timidly bringing him sugar in an effort to fix things. And hopefully getting away before he notices they're there. :P
